Dota 2

dota 2 is too zoomed in.
I started playing dota about 7 years ago (and war3 about 10 years ago). Back then I was using a 19” CRT monitor with 4:3, while other people I knew where using ~15-22” monitors. The ‘zoom’ factor was right for the screen size and resolution.

Now 6 years later we still have the same field of view vertically. I use a 27” 2560x1440 (but same issue exist on 27” 1080p) and dota2 more than any other game I play feels very ‘zoomed in’. For example I can’t even fully cover a single creep with my finger.

I find myself never feeling like I can see enough above or below my hero and I spend too much time playing the game on the minimap or scrolling up and down. I think it would be a lot more fun if I could see more (if everyone could see more to keep it fair).

I’ve been thinking of upgrade to a 30” 16:10 monitor in Match. But that monitor will make a bad situation even worse, as dota 2 won’t give me extra height, but it will cut away some of my widths view (effectively zooming in even more).

It could be argued that it would not be fair to allow for more zoom. But two simple counter argument: Anyone who wants it could set it up for more zoom… and that people with very wide monitors or using eye infinity already get extra horizontal view. War3 was released over a decade ago, by now people should be able to handle a more zoomed out resolution.

I just tried Dota 2 myself. Playing on a 37" @ 1080p, the zoomed in view is a bad joke. You can't even see where you're going. I'll just go back to playing LoL it looks like.

You know that the mouse wheel can zoom in and out , but fine go and play your 10 years old LoL , I don't mind :)

Yes, the zoom is way too close. I watched a game in spectator mode and it was great (minus the fact that zoom kept resetting inwards). Somewhere between 1 and 2 ticks of the mousewheel in the current spectator mode should be the new max zoom in-game.

Bump. Very much true. I think new default should either be 1 or 2 ticks in for spectator. Then again, just my opinion.

I do watch the minimap, hence why I am sure I am better at this game then any srub who thinks the 'zoom in fine'. But watching the minimap as much as is needed is not fun. 10-15 years ago it was a respectable solution due to monitor limitations, today it is not.

If you are too poor to afford a $200-300 monitor, then do not try to bring everyone down with you.

From what I understand your problem is that the view is to close. Have you tried to run in windowed mode, maybe you can minimize the view?

On the other hand if you believe that the field of view is to small, then you must understand that a bigger field of view would give you a competitive advantage over the other players since you see other details on the map. That is why you can have a bigger field of view in the spectator mode, but the spectator is not a player.

So you want to tell me you played dota as WC3 mod? I don't think so! The field of view in WC3 was way smaler than it is in dota 2.
+ If the fiel of view is a reason for you to change back to LOL you don't belong here in the first place.
Fare well!

after almost 2 years u still cant get used to it? better quit then

I got used to it long ago. I played dota 2 when it was on war3. I just think it can be better. No need to make it so newbified for poor people.

Yeah, poor people with have a disadvantage... But why do we cater to them? Allow a better zoom level would allow 80-90% of the people to take advantage of it.

The field of view is almost the same, you only gained a bit width. That is not an acceptable 'gain' for +10 years.

Fare well!

Fallen and Squiddie are the lol players. I never mentioned it once.

If you have options that are effectively exclusive to the people with better computers, that's....not a great business decision?
IT'S ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PAY TO WIN.
Do you have a good computer? Well you can take advantage of the zoom and see more than everyone else.

"everyone everywhere should have to do what i want and put up with what i want or else they cant play"

fixt your post
Quite. The game is supposed to be the all-inclusive alternative to league of legends, so why would they suddenly make the zoom too far out to be fair on poorfags?
