Dota 2 on linux
How many of you guys are playing on Linux? I always had bad experience with Dota 2 on Linux. it constantly crashes and restarts my PC automatically. And it completely bricked my Linux laptop. I'm scared to try it again on another PC now. I used to game on Windows earlier and now I might buy a used Windows PC just to play Dota 2. Every other game is working fine. I finished so many indie or AAA games on Linux without any issues. Problem is just with Dota 2.

Linux PC specs:
Endeavour OS with i3wm for both Desktop and Laptop. The Desktop had Nvidia GPU but the Laptop had AMD gpu.

i did when my computer started to be terrible with windows. but almost 10 years passed. well it wasnt nice because you understand it is not about your os. so i bought a new computer. people usually prefer linux when their computer is about to die.

Yea but my PC is above average in specs. 3070, i7 11700f, 32gb. It runs every game on high settings and even Dota except for the fact that my PC crashes every time when playing Dota for some reason even though Dota is classified as a native Linux game on steam!

is this some kind of joke? I have been playing Dota2 on Devuan(Debian) gpu gtx1660 or rx580 for 5 years, I only had problems twice, but they also occurred on windows! how on earth do you do this?

thats why im asking you. It could be something wrong with my arch linux config. But everytime i play dota and only dota my pc restarts for some reason. I also found many other people facing the same problem but only on windows. I replaced my PSU and repasted my thermal paste on my GPU and CPU and still facing the same issue. Could be my PC has some other hardware problem.

ok. my current configuration:
-e5-1660v4, previously I had e3-1275v3 and had no problems
gtx1660(nvidia experimental driver) or rx580
64gb ram, previously I had 16gb and had no problems
strip zfs on 2 m.2 drives, previously 3x sata ssd I had no problems
only use kernel <linux-kernel-6.10.0, since 6.10.0 there are lots of problems.
I use kernel-rt
devuan+x11+lxqt, wayland causes problems and 50% lower fps
I use "SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=x11 -useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -nojoy -novr -novid"

currently I don't have any major issue
I had a problem where the FPS drops mid match and stays that way until I restart
the client, but the issue is fixed by enabling the steam overlay

one thing I hate though is the daily 2GB shader pre-cache download

I use voidlinux and I have installed steam with flatpak
I have Ryzen 5 5600g

I think games or normal programs (user space programs) should not be able
to crash your system, perhaps the issue is from the GPU driver?
correct me if I am wrong

disable downloading sheders! after 3-5 matches fps will return to normal! no more downloading 2gb shaders. as I wrote earlier, fps drops occur if you use kernel 6.10.0 or newer. there are fps drops if you use Wayland instead of X11.

rather, it is a problem with overheating of the power section of the motherboard, or problems with RAM (the op did not write that he checked using memtest+). I had no problem with even the experimental drivers from nvidia (in fact, they are the only ones I use).

it was my arch Linux config issue. It works fine on Debian distribution. :)

It runs natively, works on NixOs and Arch no problem, Actually far better than on windows frame rate wise

rx580 Windows11 ~100fps, OSX Catalina ~100fps, Devuan 150-170fps.
GTX 1660 Windows11 ~100fps, Devuan 150-170fps
Edit
On Linux, it is of great importance to use a kernel older than 6.10.0 and to use X11

i played on linux and i have a rx 580 ryzen 3.

the only problem is the slow hard drive, and I had to put the game into (large) windowed mode, becasue that did solve the crashes I had.
because of the slow hard drive, the matchmaker give me abhandon when i tryed to connect. i solved this with preloading the interface (which took minutes long for ubuntu 20.04) by starting a bot match, cancel it, then queue up.

so you must tweak and search and invest time, but yes it works when you keep going for it.

the problem is people dont have time for this and those who get paid for doing this well dont do the jo b either. bad folk body we need a society body like frederick the great had.

i play dota NOW on win7 as i found out i can still install and use steam still just need to disable the client from updating no issue. all the games updates with no issue in this mode.
