Dota 2 runs very slow on very good config (laptop)
Hey There,
Not sure how compatible it is with my system but i find it weird i need to play dota 2 on a low resolution with things in advanced video settings set to low or medium.
I'm running the game on a laptop with:
- i7-3630QM 2.4GHZ 6M IvyBridge
- Nvidia Geforce GTX660M 2GB DDR5 192bit
- 750 GB HDD/SSD Hybrid
- 16GB SO-DIMM DDR3-1600

I have made this post in order to maybe find a solution or some tips to what i can do to run dota 2 with no interference at least with everything on medium and a high resolution.

Thank you in advance! :D

Is it lenovo y580?

I bought that laptop with the same configuration a week ago... Got the same problems - 20-25 fps on min settings, I've returned that laptop. Try to test your laptop with benchmarks like 3dmark. Should be ~17000 for 3dmark06 and ~2400 for 3dmark11. Anyway google some benchmarks for you configuration. (I had 5000 for 3dmark06 and 1140 for 3dmark11, 3 and 2 times lower than it has to be)

Also try to check you laptop temperature (CPU and GPU). You can check it with AIDA or MSI Afterburner, GPU-Z - there are a lot of programs.

Hey there, thanks for the reply.
It's a Maguay laptop actually, i got this brand because i could get the hardware i wanted in a laptop just like building a PC from parts :D
I did 3dmark11 test and got - P2142 and in full load for about 10 min cpu was at about 90C (this is without an external cooler).
Still think the score should be higher for this rig but still....i don't think dota2 should have an issue runing at full in 1080p, any ideas?
thanks.

for a relic, this game should need software to slow it down. instead it runs like it has memory leaks. these load times are unexceptable in todays modern computers

does anyone have any ideas what i could do in this case or if there will be a future upgrade in that this issue will not occur?
Thanks.

I'm running the game on a HD4000 ( 13" rMBP under Bootcamp ) just fine on maxed settings ( including AA ) at a 1680x1050 resolution. Your drivers are messed up... your configuration should handle the game easily. I actually limited my fps to a max of 30, cause having it running at 60+ made no sense / difference.

ok thanks a lot guys, i do have a dual GPU and will try to force dota 2 to stay in the dedicated one, as for drivers...i'm gonna install driver detective tonight and we'll see what's what :D

Thanks a lot for the responses guys...i actually couldn't stand it any more and returned the laptop as it was in waranty...the guys from maguay actually found out that the cooler on the processor was not functioning thus the processor was working at a third of it's power because of the heat and did something called throttling, everithing was repaired and i'm very happy with my brand new rig :D (that's how it feels like:P)...thanks for all the help and see u out there :D
i think game booster will help
