Plus your 450+ hours on dota shows your commitment.
I hae 450+ hours ?? o_O .. does this count for being afk in menu ? and does it count tournament views? If so, that makes sense cause there is no way I have spent THAT much time playing
ofc
I don't see how people replying irrationally to this thread is any reason to lock it. He asked some legitimate questions.
Also, I would like to add that DotA has an in-game spectator client, so many people don't use twitch because the can just use this.
#2 LoL is more casual-friendly.
#3 LoL is marketed more.
The main reason is that Dota's target audience is different (much more narrow). When making it, the developers had the option to make it more accessible, but they decided to copy the original gameplay in order to appeal to the classic Dota fans. League of legends, on the other hand, is really accessible and appeals to casuals a lot more because of the clear-cut mechanics and the less complicated item / stats system.
EDIT: Also, in the last year, LoL's success has allowed RIOT games to market the game more effectively. LoL has a lot more "public buzz" and presence than Dota, which in turn draws in even more players.
League of Legends has one too. It was introduced in November 2011 :D The reason that there are more LoL streamers is because there are more LoL players.
tl;dr: Dota2 chose to appeal to the original Dota players, League of Legends wants to appeal to the world.
because people is so foolish
and why can't view replay?
#2 dota 2 is dota 1
#3 The game hasn't been released in korea yet.
Not to mention that it came out before dota2 and might possibly be the game that introduces the MOBA genre to newer gamers....
They seemed somewhat interested, but the sheer number of people that play LoL on a regular basis was overwhelming. Out of the 30 or so competitors in the tournament, it seemed that 25 or so play LoL regularly, or at least somewhat often. Only 1 person there (at least, that decided to speak up) had even played Dota. There's a huge gap in popularity and I believe the key reasons have been stated in previous posts.
System requirements aren't as high
Characters have wider range of appeal IE: Cuteness, Beauty
Release date
Public media, IE: ads, gamecards, etc.
Gameplay is less complex (let's not argue about this, I haven't played much, I'm speaking from a relatively ignorant standpoint- but you can't deny, I know that much!)
I'm sure there's more, but both games are great and have caused Mobas to come into their own. I'm glad to just see more genres of multiplayer gaming, instead of FPS and MMOs.
