i suppose another question would be, if i d/l'd the replay where the hell does steam save it on my pc??

You would have to play the replay from within the cilent with OBS screen capturing the entire game....Think of it as if you were streaming a replay to twitch or something (which OBS can be used to do btw) but in this instance, saving it into an output file instead...

Try searching the match ID in your C drive? (I dont know if this works I am just trying to help)

I believe you can find all your saved replays in \Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota\replays :)

Edit: They are .dem files, so you will indeed have to play them in-game and use a video recorder to capture it!

Edit 2: There is in-fact a way to convert them to .avi format, here's how:

'open the console (you can enable it by going to Dota 2 in your library, right clicking and going into properties, "Set Launch Options", and typing in: -console +developer 1. In-game the key for console is "\", the key beside backspace)
'type in: sv_cheats 1
'type in: host_framerate 30
'type in: startmovie vidname.avi avi (replace "vidname" with the name of the .dem file you are converting)
'You will get a window with codec settings for your video conversion and such
'type in: playdemo vidname (here you can change "vidname" to whatever you want)
'Wait for the video to run through and process. Any slowdowns while running the video will not affect the video in the end. Also turning up your graphics to max (or at least on high) will not affect the video performance so you may want to do that as well.
'When the video is finished, type: endmovie
'You're done, the resuls will be in Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota\replays or in dota 2 beta or dota 2 folder.

When I typed startmovie vidname.avi avi (of course i retyped "vidname" to ID match) and submited in Console, Dota suddenly closed and nothing happened.
Could you please advise me?

Dota likely crashed, you may want to send a crash report (found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\dumps. If you have multiple dumps in that folder, find the latest-created one which is likely the one that was created when you tried recording). Make sure to rename the file (remove the ".exe" part, or just rename it to "crashdump") before making a thread and about it and attaching it to the thread here.

you probably did not change the framrate and rendering might have caused the crash

Any updates on this? I have the same problem that only .tga files are produced :/

Its encrypted if you are looking for actual video file only dota client can decrypt it you need to record it by screen recorder software
The Corinthian May 23, 2019 @ 8:39pm
The Dota 2 client is encrypting files? Do you mean compressing?
