In dota countering your opponent is really important.
Therefore the strat comes from picking the right heroes , the right items , the right time to atk/defend, right time to gank...
If you play without thinking , well , you gonna regret it.
It's more of hunting game. You have to be like a pack of wolves or you lose. A lot of people don't understand that concept on dota which is why the often take beatdown.
Movement and positioning is everything IMO, thats why I compare it to chess. Hunting is consequence of your ability to be on the right place in the right moment.
What kind of a dumb question is this.
I'd say your answer is dumb...
Well , yes , in most games having a strat will be a benefit.
But how much that is important in order to win , is what makes it a strat game.
You pick X heroes , those heroes open to you X possible ways to play , the enemy team also got X heroes you need to take into account , then you may need to change to Y way during the game to win , add to that the fact anyone could make Z item that changes the game even more, and so on.
Honestly , it would take me a very long time to explain how complex dota can become. One way or the other , for those who played for a long time and watch pro matches , this game is an amazing strat game.
That is the reason dota is so hard to learn, it does not look so complex from outside , but once you begin to understand it , you notice how many possibilities are open to you.
Then, you have to actually USE those heroes in ways that work well together. It's a strategy game because to play it best, there needs to be consideration that goes into it before the game even starts, and the players need to work together to succeed. Compare this to something like CoD, where everything is more largely dependent on player skill, and you could cycle people in and out between "characters" (such as they exist) with few changes.
