As for your rank - if you cannot climb out of herald then you were recalibrated properly.
DOTA's rank decay system kicks into effect if you don't play for an extended period of time.
At least your rank didn't depreciate that much. In other MOBAs, there is rank decay if you don't play for a long time AND there is a hard rank reset at the end of a season. Taking a 6-month to year break barely affects you ranking in DOTA, but in other MOBAs you will lose most of your MMR.
As for ranked, stuff like the behavior score, lax restrictions on premades, and antismurf/booster systems have made rank a cesspool for game-ruiners, smurfs, boosters, and trolls. The rigged mm will routinely put you with the worst players they can find if you have a streak of games where you play exceptionally well, because the algorithm thinks that you are a booster.
Your best bet for ranking up is to play in a 4-5 stack and abuse the inherently broken mm for premades.
you either herald or you are immortal.
How I am supposed to boost myself then? It is true I didn't play for like 6 months or more, so I guess it works almost like a rank reset in other compeitive games nowadays.
So when I was playing more and tried to climb rank, I exactly experienced that others were talking about that the mm forces you to not climb too much (the mysterious 50/50 ratio). I have even two screenshots, when as support I played my best and I was able to boost myself almost with 11-12 win streaks then suddenly you know what has happened? I still played the same, however I still got around 10 losing streak after my winning streak, and I exactly played as well and with the same hero. Once I did it with earthshaker, and once with cm, in both case I made more than 10 wins in a row, then suddenly I got around 10 lost games in a row, even if I didn't change anything, I was simply forced to lose the next games...
So it seems others experience it too. But I think it is very bad system, then it almost seems impossible to gain rank in short time if you are once put in low mmr.
I found the old screenshots to pove it:

After both of these streaks I got terrible games and I lost back my progress of climbing..
You can't boost by yourself unless you are able to consistently 3v5 against smurfs...which is not possible for the vast majority of players.
The game is rigged to keep players in an emotional spiral of wins and losses as some perverse method to install engagement which has been proven to make players play longer/more than if the mm was actually fair.
Losing 200 mmr is just a piece of cake, last night I got a sniper mid losing and telling me the game is "already lost". Why do people play Dota if they think they cannot win?
Someone must be detached from reality here, either Valve or us players. If it is us then we deserve to be losing only we don't know. If it is Valve then all the good players have left only toxic snakes hanging around only Valve don't know.
