Way to appeal abandons?
Got issued an abandon for a game today because I could not reconnect in time. DotA2 crashed and steam froze my computer, I had to restart it. Once I got on, steam failed to launch multiple times, and when it did it took FOREVER to reconnect to the game. We WON thankfully and I was doing quite well in this match. But in the end I lost MMR because I got an abandon!! That is utter BS!!! I was owning all game and got glitched out by this crappy steam software, and got boned
This is the second time this has happened to me, but the first time I'm bringing it up. Is there a way to get an abandon appealed or something? In DotA 1 on the little war3 networks you could ALWAYS appeal to the bot for "bans," which were effectively abandons.... How can I do this is DotA 2???

people talk about how the system needs to be refined, yet they hardly ever give their own insight on what they think would work.

of course most are just gonna bash, when most of the post is just ranting.

Play lots and lots of games, so the one abandon is a drop in the ocean that does nothing to your account. Because unless a server on Steam's end goes down, they don't care why you got an abandon.

Well immediatley droping insights out of nowhere isn't quite realistic, I'm just trying to start some conversation about it. Obviously I don't know how to fix it. Something like a simple report appeal system with match info worked pretty well in DotA 1. "Oh you were gone for 6 minutes of a 50 minute game and finished the game while you continued to farm, build items, and play with your team? Yah, abandon reversed." Its not like you'd have to watch every damn second of the replay to deduce that from a scoreboard/stat record off dota buff. Its not like a ruined the game in any serious capacity.
Idk maybe your team mates could VOTE at the end of the match or something if they think you deserve to be smoten

And GoabNZ, i know that when i play lots of games it will drop into the ocean so to speak, I get it. THat's why I don't care very much. I'm trying to point out the bigger issue as merely being one example. Hard to do i guess.
Also, how would you define an "abandon"?

There isn't any appeal system. With 9mil players around Valve would probably need twice more people to be watching replays all day long. The result would be community appeal system, which would make sense (community appeal for community created bans) but I kinda doubt, they will actually invest their time in it.

As for the core issue, how can you actually distinguish a poor fellow like you having steam frozen, and a frustrated kiddo, who all of the sudden kills his Dota2 & Steam processes because he is fed up with <insert a nation here> players. You can't. So valve punishes everybody equally in the hopes that bad guys will get what they deserve, and good guys will try to analize what went wrong and try to fix that.

There is a number of issues here. Dota2 crashing is pretty a common thing. However if you run decent OS then Steam (or even Dota2) can't freeze your computer. It's just not possible. Modern OS have a thing call separation, where a process can fail, yet OS can still be operational. Something else is causing your computer to freeze, Dota2/Steam is just triggering it. Secondly, the sentence "steam failed to launch multiple times" is pretty vague. What was the exact reason? You had several failed logons? Or perhaps the Steam itself wasn't starting. Maybe your autostart list is way too long and makes your system not responsive enough for several minutes after your OS have started already?

Everytime such a crash/freeze thing happens start your timer and see what takes the most time. I've had simillar mishaps like you and was able to come back before 5 minute mark. I think you should too. Dota2 requires you to deliver good performance. Time to start demanding similliar performance from the stuff you use to play Dota2.

If you don't like how the game works, feel free to leave. Abandon system works perfectly and there is absolutely no reason to change it. They even allow people with bad connection a chance to leave game early and not get an abandon due to recent changes. Valve is not going to check on every single connection loss because it will take ages and absolutely pointless.

America and a video game are quite different. Based on the logistics that Valve has, this abandon system is the best one.

How can you prove any of that? you cant just say you had some family emergeny or whatever ans expect everyone to take your word for it. maybe you just RQ, how ouwl we know?

Anyway, while you may have come back and helped win, 5 mins of XP loss is a lot. Plenty of gmaes that will make you team fight with a serious disadvantage.

Yah obviously I was using America as hyperbole. My point was that if you apply that mode of thinking to anything you are basically an idiot. "You don't like it get out" is the hallmark of stupdity, and saying things like "perfect" and "absolutely no reason" are both dangerous and short sighted, in ANYTHING: the recipie for perfect meatballs, the way your transmition is shifiting, the quality of your haircut, and even video games. You are essentially promoting ignorance and complancecy.

as for you Kazaaaak, It is easy to prove that someone played a game till the end and in GOOD FAITH. Do they still have items when the game is over? Did they continue to level up and buy items after they reconnected? Did they win? Did they have a positive KDA? Did they recieve a single report? All sorts of stuff bro. I'm not asking anyone to take my word for anything. I'm suggesting that Valve use the statistcal data easily available and apply it to their ban system in a beneficial way

and while valve isn't perfect, they are probably one of the most creative game developers out there. if any company had the capactiy to implement this, it would be them.
