Viper
I could use some tips fighting this guy, in general I cant do very well against him and even playing as him didnt make me see what his weaknesses were. Any tips from people who are likely far better players than I am?

Viper is a bitck to go up against as a melee hero. Generally ranged heroes fair better against him, but the best strategy is to just avoid taking as many hits as possible

Regen like bottle helps alot. Also, picking a ranged hero or someone with summons can assist you in lane. Generally just staying away from him while getting last hits is the idea here.

Yeah the one guy I was able to do well against him with back when I was in Limited was Sniper, who I tend to avoid now because he is kinda boring to play.

Antimage, Bristleback and Abaddon all work well.

I hate going up against Viper as anyone. If it's a smart Viper, they'll adapt and either max corrosive skin against poking autoattackers, Q for easy kills, or nethertoxin for farming/tower pushing.
So the options against him are pure damage, Necrolyte, BKB, or a really strong autoattack (PA, Tusk). Otherwise, he'll be a lot harder to kill by other means.
As someone who frequently plays both as and against Viper mid in a mid-to-high-level setting, I would say this quote from Merlini sums him up perfectly: "Win lane, lose game." The question is not whether he will win his lane, he's all but guerunteed to at least go even in most matchups unless you gank him heavily. The question is whether he can transition it into anything meaningful. I generally play Viper as a 3-position utility, using my great lane performance to rush items like Mekanasm and secure my team an advantage going forward. You see, Viper is generally bad at carrying, because he's single-target and thus can't dish out the damage in big fights. So, Viper cannot be a threat on his own in the late-game unless he gets fed (which sadly happens way too often), he HAS to be backing up a better carry. So, what to take away from this wall of text is don't overly concern yourself with an enemy Viper getting good farm, focus on shutting down whichever carry he's backing up.

With malicious intent
Doom with Agh's is a great counter, since it locks all his skills (including passives, but ONLY with Aghs).
Viper is very slow, doesn't have any disables and he doesn't really have anything to crowd control like AOE spells. If outnumbered, especially if the enemy team have disables in the moment, I don't think Viper can do much.

He's a very similar hero to drow. If you can get right up in his face instead of running and dying, you'll do much better. (centaur/tiny with blink for example)

Fight him, so many people lose to viper because theyre afraid of him, they get slowed once and get discouraged, what happens is that viper gets several hundred free hits and a kill without being damaged even once because of this. If you're aiming to kill viper, dont hold back, dont be afraid of the slow and initial damage, his overall damage output is quite low unless you're on the brink of death where he deals increased damage.
