What is difference between Position 1,2,3,4,5?
Many people use this kind of system to define the roles in a team, but they kind of leave it very ambiguous as to what each position does.

  • I know position 1 and 2 are carries, with 1 getting more farm. But, other than that, what is the other things 2 has to do different from 1, when does 2 come into play and when does 1 come into play?

  • Position 4 and 5 are both supports, but is there any difference between them in terms of what 4 has to do different from 5?

  • What makes certain heroes suitable for position 3, the mid, that is not there in heroes that go position 4 and 5?

Also, on another note, do guys like Juggernaut, RNGesus and Sven fall in category of position 1 or 2?

2. Is a carry that get's less farm. 3. is more of an real semi-carry. 4. would be a support that gets mek, BKB, and other items. 5. Gets very few items and will mainly be warding and helping everyone out.

not 100% accurate, but gets the point across.

What makes heroes suitable for 2-3, etc is how dependent on farm they are. A hero that can do well without farm, Lina for one, would be 3. Sven would probably be 1 on most teams.

Largely this 1,2,3,4,5 position talk is really only useful in organized teams. a random pub match and it goes out the window.

well, for 4 and 5, different supports need different levels of farm, and es needs far more farm than a kotl to be a max effectiveness, es needs his blink, kotl only really needs health regen and he would be alright not getting any more items apart from wards etc

yah they don't talk about this numbers or positions, they're just picking what's the best to counter enemies and create a great combo with their carries, also to save them

at the end of the day, the number system is simply farm priority. nothing more than that....

that position numbers are simply
1-carry
2-carry
3-semi carry
4-support
5-support

Honestly, the system is a bit outdated. The best pro teams now run closer to 2-2-3-4-4.

It is the order of priority for gaining gold and experience (farm). A hero used to play the carry role tends to be more item dependent and a support tends to be item independent. It is a convention used by players. It is not absolute.
