How To: "Lock On" to Your Heroes
i remembered there were people wanting this, and usually most of the responses are either:
- get used to edge panning/WASD/whatever the middle mouse thing is.
- get lost.

i don't remember anybody actually posting how to do so.

i just remembered about this while i was playing Sims Medieval, where i actively disabled edge panning to move around with WASD. then i thought: "hey wait a minute, couldn't you disable it in Dota 2 as well?"

so i checked it, and it turns out, you can.

so, for those who want to lock on to their heroes:
1. Go to Options.
2. Untick "Edge Pan" under "Camera"
3. in-game, double click your hero.
4. voila!

not to mention, if your system runs smooth enough it makes laning phase easier too

Personally I like having my camera off centre so I can have more of the screen where the enemy is or is likely to come from. I have never tried locking the screen, would take some getting used to I suppose. But each to their own.

i just keep hitting 1 to target myself, you shouldnt keep you screaan locked on you hero. you should focus on map not hero.

i agree.

i'm just providing a workaround for those that aren't used to WASD/edge panning....

i dont like edge panning mainly cause i feel i can never get my mouse on the target in time, using wasd allows me to position my mouse to where it needs to be a bit faster

or press the hot key for "select hero" or "select all units" and double press that, and it'll center camera over your hero.

so i can look across map, and press "r" or "e" twice and now camera centered back over my hero.

generally it is not hard having mouse hit edge of camera, just set your settings so that you use less strain while retaining accuracy. i use deceleration to have smoother movements of the camera. with some practice it's really easy to have camera exactly where you want it with great precision, with little to no strain at all.

generally stuff is long range and you need camera unlocked to maximize your potential, just takes practice.

i'd like to use WASD, but i've just gotten used to edge panning that it just feels weird trying to change. and i've tried many times too....
