You'd be surprised what people will fall for. The most common one I see is the scammer saying they'll transfer however much money from Paypal after the other user sends them an item (usually something ridiculous like $60 USD for a $30 Arcana) and then just leaving with the item. It used to shock me that people actually fell for that when it says on the damn trade window that you can't trade for money, but now I'm just sort of used to it.
And the account can be banned, yes, so definitely report anyone who tries to do this sort of thing.

But becareful when dealing with someone like him, maybe a scam attempt...
Lol 60 dollar for a 30 arcana? if thats not a BIG red flag then i dont know now. What im in shock is how stupid they can get. SMH faith in humanity....
I know, it's stupid. I assume a lot of the success is due to players thinking the other guy doesn't know the item value and hoping to make some quick cash, so they accept the offer without really thinking about it.
There's a copy/pasted message they all use so it looks official, I've read it countless times in threads in the Help & Tips forum. Most of them offer $50 to $60 USD for either a set or sometimes a single item.
so theres a chance i false reported him? hes profile is private. and offering 40 dollars for my sf arcana when u can get it much cheaper from community market or dota 2 store is a big red flag to me. Also, I cant get what hes saying in the messages he sent me
Nahh, you could just report him for scamming attempt, screenshot your chat with him and link it to the report box, im sure he'll get banned anytime soon :)
Even if Webmoney is a real thing, it was still almost certainly a scam for the reasons you mentioned. Offering to overpay with a private profile? That's as close to a 100% chance of a scam as you can get.
Trading with anything that isn't integrated in Steam is beyond risky, even going to one of the main trading sites is still risky because of repbots. If I saw that guy I would have reported him as well so thanks for helping the community
