Because the damage is being done by the mine, which is a separate entity from the Techies themselves.

Yeah, like Matt said, it used to be that way (when they were first launched in the test client) but was then changed because the devs didn't want them to be quite so insanely easy to kill.

I assume that also means nyx's spiked carapace no longer works against them?

I don't recall Techies EVER being hurt by Blademail through his mines, even back in All-Stars.

what about pugna's nether ward, it's the same thing ...

Pretty sure when he drops the mines, it does damage because it's a spell using mana. Seeing as Remotes are Auto, and Focused Det does not consume mana, there's no reason for the Ward to do anything prior to the mines being there.

This was never an issue back in All-stars and Puggy rocked Techies. I don't see why new skins/new coding would change the base features.

Could be? Though he's only one hero (anyone can purchase blademail, though) and I doubt Valve want to punish counter-pickers, since that's basically the whole point of captain's mode, which is what the pros use. Also, Carapace only damages based on the first instance of damage per hero (i.e. the first mine), so if you ran through a field of them, he'd still only take damage for the first one (I think).

Good point... though the ward is magic immune (as are Veno's and SS's wards), so really blademail shouldn't affect them at all, in the same way that it doesn't affect BKB users.

Someone should probably point that out on the dev forum... but I don't care enough to do it myself.

Like you pointed out on Nyx's running through mines, it would only repel the first one. However because mines are a seperate entity as a whole from Techies, the damage would not kick back to Techies.

Think of a Mine as a summon similar to Lycan's Wolfs. The recoil doesn't go to Lycan, it goes to the wolf that hit them. Land mines are the same thing as running over TA's Slow trap, except instead of doing damage, the trap slows. If it did any damage, it would recoil to that slow trap and not TA.

Lemme just necro this topic for a tid-bit
Back in allstars techies did in fact take damage from blademail mines proc
Somehow, the warcraft engine roots the damage dealt as directly from techies than the mines. There's even a video of dragon knight doing it.
