if you have rts experience you'll be able to pick up DOTA, lot of little things cross over. Years of AOE2 helped a lot.
This. On toxcity and smurfs I cannot really comment cuz I have not played league, but you should be prepared that you be flamed and griefed a lot. I recommend trying as many heroes as possible during your first tens of hours into the game and picking out just a few of them that you really enjoy, so it would be easier to master them. If you do get flamed and a lot, filter out the chat from settings.
