Good plan.
Many games do that I do not see what's the issue.
That's not true.
And I'm not sure why you think it's important that people's MMR resets- their skills haven't changed that much so what's the point?
Apart from not achieving much for the average dota player, the pros hated the mmr reset that they had previously as the game quality hit rock bottom for them until the better players incrased their mmr. Every immortal player got reset to 5000 and the difference in skill between immortals with numbers and without is noticable.
MMR does not reset it stays hidden until you recalibrate it. You cannot recalibrate from like 0 to 5000.
And actually yes you can go from 0 to 5000. just like you could go from 5000 to 0. play like ass or take a bunch of pills and get stupid for life.
i would also add the system needs to be more dynamic, if players are doing great for many games in a row they should be jumped up in mmr and vice versa if your playing very bad... this would protect against account buying and smurfing
the only thing the matchmaker should consider when making teams is trying to balance the mmr on both teams. anything else is just noise and causes distortions in mmr. the range of players the matchmaker uses should be increased as well, this would actually help the system be more accurate
I think Valve eventually released a statement that said, basically, "this rumor isn't true and even if it was we're just the system anyone for unrelated reasons we swear so stop it" and the weird zeus-spam died out.
But anyway, so Valve has to be very careful about what information they release.
