Dota 2
Copy Dota 2 [Offline]
Hi guys,

I want to copy my Dota 2 to another PC which isn't connected to the Internet but has Steam installed.

I was searching around how to do this and I found these steps:

1. install steam
2. login into steam
3. download Dota 2 only to set up the folder and pause the download
4. Manage Libraries, right click on Dota2, and "delete local content"
5. copy your dota2 files (dota 2 beta) into SteamApps/common/
6. after you finish copy, go to Steam and try to install Dota2 again
7. steam will automatically verifying your dota 2

I tried this before and it works because the destination computer is connected to the Internet. But now I want to copy the game to a computer that isn't connected. Step 6 would fail because the Install option is grayed out.

Anyone knows how?

Isnt it easy to backup dota 2 using steam backup function?

Steam => Backup and restore games => Backup currently installed programs => Follow instruction

Steam => Backup and restore games => Restore a previous backup => Follow instruction

Try it.....

The backuped files is a lot smaller than your direct copy dota 2 because its being compress :)

Good luck mate!

Yeah that would help a lot. Thanks for the instructions!

I found an article where the backup and restore mechanism by Steam wouldn't work offline as it needs to communicate to their servers whether or not I own the game. Talking about Dota 2, since the game is free to play, would this be a problem?

Ok so the backup and restore feature didn't work for me since it wants me to connect to the Internet (perhaps to verify if I own the game). What worked though is to copy the "dota 2 beta" folder and the appmanifest_570.acf file on the "steamapps" folder.
