Had one of them in my friends' list for a good while up until today, messaging me those types of request every now and then, usually once per week or even less frequently sometimes, the persistence very much seemed completely random
Got added by 2 new ones back to back literally 3 hours ago, which sort of freaked me out, but also finally made me block&delete the previously mentioned one since it became pretty clear to me, that it wasn't just a weird one-off scam experiment but an actual plague in the making
unless you have been play with them in game or you know them in real person ^_^
yeah thats how they do it they seem to just talk to you at random i found 2 again im my list with the same same and avatar i just blocked them
funilly enough i have played with 1 of the guy i even changed my initials to Yeeters.OneAutumnPlayer at one point cause they were good but then they sent me a link and since i trust them since they where really good and even streamed in twitch i accepted then i suddenly got a message that the code that was supposed to be my invite code was a code for changing my steam credentials and he want it so bad that started hurrying me up without answering my questions
How this actually happened? I don't really understand btw. Any better explain? Sorry for bad English.
basically they add you and wont be chatting you right away sometimes they will play with you or just stay in your friend list if they gain enough trust or where friend for a decent amount of time they will chat you and ask if you could join their tournament called challenger
if you join they will send a link that will phish out all of your accounts details if you are not quick enough to notice something was off
if you decline they will still send you link but you will need to sign in for them to change your account details and get all your items. typically they will say they need votes or need 1 more team in their team or what ever just dont click on the link and check your API if its blank its good and if its not blank check if that is your PC or not
Correct for what you said about the link. Best I think is don't ever click any malicious link and always hiding the "friend-list" as private also. I understand a lot of scammers like to strike or aim to get our friend-list details to lure or persuade us in chatting. That's the reason why our 'PRIVACY' with friends can be set with private :)
TQ for info.
the problem is i need to trade and gift i also use sites like etopfun to trade in items securely so making it private will not allow it
i make money playing the game by trading up or gifting cache making it private will not allow me to do that. but its true i should limit who i accept as a friend
if its not Valve's site, you risk your account.
you don't need extra sites for this. thats just extra risky
Another thing is to make sure that using Steam as a way to scam people is, if not impossible, very hard.
I don't think of joining the extra risky sites. What I meant by joining is, knowing & selling the items to other buyers that we can reach in real-life through the social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. If you do not know who is that person, then must ignore also. I bought a lot of my cache items through Facebook and never face scams before from there.
The worst history I faced before was once when I got scammed for the first time in the year 2014 (when I was still a noob and never read the Steam Knowledge Base). Since then, I started to visit the Steam Knowledge Base site many times and prefer to read many things from there, learned a lot as well. The first scam to me really opened my eyes very big with the lost of 2 arcanas & 1 void hammer. That's why I am superb anti-abuse against any rules on Steam including the scam, smurf, etc. Really hope those "illegal runners" down with bad luck forever. :)
lol there is as long as you have steam guard mobile on and know how to read terms and some are actually affliated with valve
