Dota 2 disappeared from Steam library
Today (2014-05-06) Steam was updating my Dota 2 game, and because I wanted to play, I was waiting and meanwhile make some adjustment on my movie. But suddenly my program stopped working and whole PC froze up.
After reboot and launching Steam I find out Dota 2 disappeared from Library. So I went in to Steam directory and it is not there either. I can download it again, because I found it in Library "All games", but it will take few hours to get it back.

Q: What the hell has happened?

Hi guys.

I know how to solve this guys!!!!
1. Go to ur internet browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla, etc)
2. type this:-
steam://rungameid/570
3. Then, the browser will ask you whether u want to switch to Steam Client Booster or not... click Yes
4. U will need to download (no problem, at this moment ur steam didn't find yet ur game installed) just installed it...
5. Suddenly, u will be headed to update page. At this moment, ur Dota 2 will be preallocated and updated automatically.
6. TADAA!!! Now ur Dota 2 is already in the library!!!

Why did this happened???
1. Ur steam accidentally crash when u are updating the game. When u are updating, u are actually running the "steam://rungameid/570"
2. So when it crash, the file got deleted!!! (Maybe as a safety precautions... I don't really know why exactly this happens)
3. So, u must re-download it... buy running the same commend... which is why u must use that "steam://rungameid/570" so that this action run into ur steam client boosttrapper.

I solved this problem by "CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE".

In my case, when download Dota2 finish and restart my computer, Dota2 hadn't listed in library but the files exist. Then I'm download over 4x and still not listed after restart. Finally i solved this by clearing "CACHE" on steam.
1. Click "Steam>Settings>Downloads>CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE" then;
2. Go to Web Browser tab on Settings, click "DELETE WEB BROWSER CACHE" and "DELETE ALL BROWSER COOKIES" and then;
3. Try download Dota2.

TAADAA BOOM!

The game still exist after restart!

Replying to your question. this had just happened to me. my dota was gone from my library, but i checked the files on my laptop it was still there. Therefore i tried to installed again. But it had only taken about 10 minutes or so, the steam was only checking that my files were complete or not. At the beginning steam said it should taken 7 hours my internet was (10mbps) slow right. But it was just a formality from steam, so just ignore it and re-download it. I hope this helped.

go to store and install dota. dont worry it wont use data it will find existing files and it will only take some time to validate it. then u can play again

guys. Don't force restart or shot down your pc, while game is open, that will remove it from there.

Its not a dead thread. Dota disappears from steam on my PC almost every day :(
And I'm not restarting PC while dota is open, but BSOD often happens when steam is open.
Running from binaries usually don't works besause of often client updates. So, each time I'm waiting for hours to download it again :(

First confirm if your game has not been deleted
Go to the directory where you installed Dota 2 and see if it is still there
If the game is not there then you have to re download it
But if it is present then, you can
1.Check if it is hidden
2.Install the game again in the same directory (Will take probably a few minutes)

kindly click install dota 2 in the library and it start discovering existing files of dota 2 after discovering finished restart the steam so it wont download dota 2 again when you open the steam again it will just validate the steam and then there you go :) but still takes time to validate 9gb+ dota 2 for me it only takes 10mins
