best role to learn as new player?
I've been reading the guides and watching youtube, as well as playing the tutorial to get the hang of game mechanics. One question pops to mind starting out - what is the most forgiving position/role to assume to learn to play with others? Or should one just plan to try their best and still be yelled at for mistakes?

jungle i guess. But really you should just play a range of roles and heroes; it will help you get better faster. Don't mind people getting mad at you while you still suck

Although support is easier to play being able to rely on spells with effects to help you lockdown, escape, surprise enemies rather then if you can't right click them then you're screwed, playing carry is more forgivable because people in pubs freak out a lot more about "GG no wards" than "GG X couldn't carry the game".

No matter what role you play, you are going to get blamed eventually.
This trend is going to continue till you get a good grip on how things work on Dota 2.

So, as far as I'm concerned, you are asking the wrong question.
Whichever role you play, the most important thing you need to figure out now is what every other heroe can do to you.

If what I said confuses you, I will put it this way, learn which heroes are good against which, what sort of attacks do well against a certain hero, what each hero can do, so on and so forth.

Any role that you play might get your teammates angry enough to flame if you don't perform well.

-GG support no ward
-GG mid no gank
-GG carry no farm
-GG [blank] no specific item that he should totally buy
-GG still jungling at 20 minutes

Support is probably the easiest role for you to play as a new player not really because they are easier than other roles, but because you can still be useful with little farm, something that carries can't overall. Since new players have a huge farm deficient overall, support might be the ideal role for you to play until you you have grasped the mechanics of the game. Do not stick only with supports though. There will be games where you need to play something else.

As for the thingy with supports usually being called out by their team, even when they are doing somewhat well, it's mostly because lots of new players will pick carries with the intention of just killing. They still, like other new players, do not understand how the game works and if you take into consideration that it's a team game where you'll be playing with strangers, It's easy to blame the solo support for something that he/she's having trouble doing than any other of the 3 carries since you are failing just as them. I think people exaggerate a little bit about the "sad support life" though, but it happens nonetheless.

He can just play durable supports like ogre and jakiro then. Maybe omni, venge also has a pretty good str gain and her base heath is ok... I wouldn't recommend anyone to play CM when they are new in the game though.

WK can be played as a support, but it's kinda boring, I guess. Probably should play him because he only have one spell to use rather than because he's durable.

and the point of playing supports early on is because you can get away with little farm compared to other roles.

it's better to explore the roles early on than to lock yourself into one role.

I'm not talking about people like pugna that require some fast reactions and quick spell combos. I meant more ult based supports like lich.

I'd say to start with carry. Carry doesn't have to worry about anyone except itself, so it's easier for newer players. Once you learn more about the game and learn how different heroes work it'll be easier for you to know how to effectively support.

i would say someone like drow or sniper, and play bot.

go support, aslong as you buy and upgrade courier, place wards, and give mana with mana boots, everything will be fine, if someone blames you just say "I'm just a support, guess who bought the courier and wards [insert your favorite insult]?"

not every support should buy mana boots though.
as to counter the flaming with the supports, when they say something like "GG support no wards" you can say something in return like "GG carry no farm".

I thought we were trying to give advice to this guy in order to allow him to go the farthest he can while learning the ropes. Not give him a free out in case he does poorly.
