Why is pudge so popular?
Why is pudge the most picked hero of all time with a huge lead? He is not even very strong. The only thing he has is (maybe) tons of hp and a hook for trolling.

If played well, he can gank easily and maybe initiate, but most pudge players I see are so terrible, especially the ones that insta-pick in the first second. I mean, everybody can see if you suck at playing pudge during the first minutes of the game, you can't even hide how hard you suck. And still people keep picking pudge and keep failing every game.

I'm not hating the hero or pudge players I just don't understand why this hero is so popular. He can't win the game by himself, he can't carry, he can't really teamfight and he will become more or less useless sooner or later.

Is it just because of trolling?

His hook is fun to land and can make your team thank you if you do a really good one.

He has an incredibly long disable, a pure damage hook, an abillity to deny himself, technically infinite scaling, and the most important piece of them all

Dendi likes pudge.

pudge is not useless, hes an awesome disabler who is good at tanking lots of magic damage.
can hunt and make people scared of going and farming alone, easy to pick off enemies farming , specially combined with bloodseeker early game.

1. He goes mid.
2. Before 20-30 he kills 1vs1 almost any hero solo
3. Most people play for KDA, not ancient.
4. Pudge is mostly useless in team game - but is a solo hero
5. Doesn't need much items.
6. Much easier than Invo (another trash pick btw)

in public, yes. pudge is biggest threat for enemy team if u pick him.
his hook really make soo dominant in majority game (as long as your hook less miss)
but not so popular pick in real tournament. :Haruka_Emoticon:

Well, I don't know... You need to land those hooks to do anything and the "mid or feed" pudge players normally can't do that.

I know that a good pudge can create a hell lot of space for your carries. Again, I'm not hating on the hero or the players, it's just that I would pick any other hero before I would ever pick pudge. I just don't understand why this particular hero is so tremendously popular.

Go to dotabuff and go though all categories of most played, pudge is always #1. If you look at all time he got a pick rate of 31,7% and #2 sniper only got 26%.
His win rate, on the other hand, is always ~50%. As I said, he does not win games.

Actually this is wrong.
Most mid heroes have negative winrate. Since Pudge is A. Mid hero and B. #1 pick (which means new players pick him all the time) he is actually very strong hero.
