What's wrong with Dagon?

I see a ton of guides mentioning it as a "joke" or "troll" item. Why's that? It seems like it'd be useful on some heroes who need burst, like Nyx.

Because of it's high damage and low cooldown it's typically used to killsteal so it's seen as an item to do just that. In reality it's a very good item to get on heroes that like to focus down one person at a time exactly like nyx and maybe bounty (although I prefer using jinada as my main damage source). It can be picked up on heroes like Pugna as well to deliver some heavy damage with decripify to take out a key target in a teamfight like an ulting support (crystal maiden/witchdoctor who are very squishy) or to get the carry's health much lower making it easier to kill them as well.

It's supposed to be used as extra damage to quickly focus down, or scare an enemy, however it's used as a way to take kills from a team because everyone's team is dumber than they are of course.

Ah, okay. I was reading a guide on Skywrath and it suggested Dagon as a situational item on him, with a note of "I know, I know", so I decided to find out why.

Nyx is one of the heroes it's really good on, yes (one of the few it's worth it to actually upgrade it). It's highly situational on most other heroes.

In terms of stats, It has one of the worst gold:Stats ratios in the entire game. Additionally, it requires a significant gold investment as lvl 1 or 2 of dagon is, to be honest, absolute trash.

Only 3 heroes come to mind when I think about dagon: Terrorblade (cheese), Necro (50% cheese) and Nyx (quite legit).
The problem is that you can easily counter dagon with Blademail or BKB and it costs a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of money to upgrade. You can get way better items for that money.

I've heard it used on semi-carry Oracle, if he's getting fed, but yeah, it sure is pricey.

You have to get kills with a Dagon fairly pronto or you just wasted a lot of money. If you go all the way to Dagon 5, then that's the most expensive item in the game, yet it also has the weakest scaling into the lategame.

Shiva's guard for example does huge aoe level 1 dagon damage and crazy slow and is a better item in every possible way

i only nuke those enemy supports everytime we or I initiate a clash or when necessary, i dont build it for KS.

What do you mean by "cancer"? It sounds like a reasonably good tactic, and forces the enemy to buy lots of wards or a gem.

Having vision on him is not the problem, dying in 2 seconds is.
The only thing nobody does this is because both items are expensive as hell
