Is Eye of Skadi bad on Phantom Lancer?

In a match last night, two of my buddies were commenting disparagingly about the enemy teams' Phantom Lancer who built an Eye of Skadi. Please help me understand why that is so terrible. Looking at the DOTA 2 wiki, I see the following regarding illusions:

Passive abilities Illusions can use

• Raw Health or Mana
  
• Attribute Bonus (Strength, Agility and Intelligence)

So then I read for the entry about the Eye of Skadi that it grants:

• +25 Strength
  
• +25 Agility
  
• +25 Intelligence
  
• +250 Health
  
• +250 Mana

So PL's illusions will benefit from all of that.

The downside is:

Passive abilities Illusions cannot use

• Most Unique attack modifiers

From what I understand, Skadi's passive Cold Attack is a UAM, so the illusions won't benefit from that.

So is the argument against this build that it is an expensive item that you are not getting full benefit from (because the passive won't apply to the illusions), and it is taking up an item slot for something else you could have bought with all of that gold that you would get full benefit from?

Skadi's slow and health really are pretty good for PL.

Skadi is such a great item on PL. Both PL and Illusions get much needed stats and tankiness. The passive on Skadi is just a nice addition, but on any hero I get Skadi, it's because I want those awesome stats.

So to be clear, the passive Cold Attack will be applied to the real PL's attacks, but not his illusions' attacks, right?

skadi is like default item for pl.

btw HoT is actually rather bad, at least in top mmr games and competitive.

Usually you want a few heavy damage items like Diffusal 2 or Radiance on PL before you invest into tank/stat items. The scaling of Skadi is great as a 3rd or 4th big item, not as a 1st or 2nd.

I feel HoT's a good item, especially on heroes like spectre/weaver who relies on a big HP pool to have their skills/passive scale even better.

I prefer heart, because PL is not invincible in fight, but can easily escape and come back with full health.

The Slow is legit, the hp is good and overall stats are desired. Good item, but situational, like most.

skadi's fine on him. it's the best stat item in the game. the stats go into the illusions. not sure what your friends were talking about.

both items are good.. but HoT helps you rejoin the fight after a few seconds..

to me its a good item but it is not my first big item. I say 3rd or 4th on the big item list
