furthermore, your very first ranked game in calibration period puts you exactly on the level of your hidden mmr in unranked MM.
that's what puts you in even matches and not one sided matches.
you can get an idea what that hidden mmr is by keeping track of the people you play with. if you always see 4k and 5k players and never ever see someone's mmr being 2k then obviously your hidden mmr is closer to 4k and 5k than it is to 2k.
for example, i never seeen someone's account in my normal matches being 2k range. if they are visible it's always upper 3k, 4k and lower 5k. there is usually like 2 people on average per normal match with mmr visible. on my other account that i mess around on, i see 2k and 3k but never anything in 4k or above.
but not only seeing those players you can also stomp those 5k players like i do, over numerous games, and get an idea that 5k in general is below you or not, sure one player that is 5k might be messing around in normals, but when you are beating 5k players numerous times in your normals then you know ur hidden mmr is up near there.
anyway, hidden MMR and ranked MMR are separeted. it's pretty weird because if you get a low starting MMR and then, improve a lot on your unranked games and get back to ranked later on, you might train wreck everybody.
you can have an idea by checking dotabuff for your games. you will see normal, high or very high skilled depending on where you are.
it's why one account of mine 5k and the other account around 2k-3k. i played meepo on my other account and won 90 percent of my matches in normals over 500 games with meepo he still had 90 percent win rate and didn't do bot matches with him, i was still matched with 3k players and still winning every match. then i did a smurf, won the first 20 games ina row of course, wasn't a surprise. and kept winning high rate on the smurf winning 4v5's and winning matches partners fed, ect. and by 100 games into my smurf account i was being matched with 5k players frequently and beating them numerous times, if i go onto my other account with over 2000 matches it doesn't matter that i previously won 90 percent in normals for 500 matches, the match making still doesn't put me in even matches.
