HELP. Some noob questions about Dota 2.
I just started Dota. I did the tutorial but there were some things that were not covered in it.

1. How do I buy more expensive/advanced items? I had 8000 gold on me, but when I clicked on the item I wanted nothing happened.
The item did not go to my stash, literally nothing happened. I was able to buy my boots and my circlet but after that I wasn't able to buy anything else despite having a ton of gold. I tried clicking, right clicking, dropping and dragging but none of that worked.

2. How do I change the controls of this game?
I want to be able to hotkey my items to the number buttons. I want to make the space button center the screen on my hero. I also want to be able to quick-cast items, instead of Q -> left click. I want to stuff to activate the instant i press the button.

3. Any tips on last hitting? Last hitting is very difficult in this game.

4. What heroes do you recommend for noobs?

5. Where are these "secret shops" located?

6. Are there wards in this game?

7. Any tips on getting across the giant map faster so i lose less XP?

1, rigt click or if not it might be a glitch, 2, go to controls then click on quick cast its what the pros do, 3 practice, 4 do the limited heroes game mode, 5 if your radiant its on the left side, if your dire its o the right jungle, youll see yellow points in the small jungle thats it, but if you control the courer you can tell it to go to secret shop and buy items for you, 6 you can buy it, just search wards in the shop, teleport scroll

1. Probably you couldn't because part of those items needed to bought from the secret shop. Send the courier to the secret shop, buy those items and send it back to you.

2. Check options, you can do whatever you want on controls.

3. Don't auto attack, wait until the creep has low health then kill it. Depends on your heroe's damage, attack animation and proyectile speed if ranged. pick heroes like Sniper to practice lasthitting.

4. Sniper, Drow Ranger, Dragon Knight, Wraith king, Viper.

5. Once you click to buy an item that requieres the secret shop it'll marked in your minimap. Both sides have their own secret shop and you can use both.

6. Yes

7. Buy teleport scrolls, use it and select the closest tower if you have in the map to the location you want to teleport to.

1) No idea
2) In the top left of the menu at the start screen there is an options button, there you can change almost anything
3)Do bot matches to find a last hitting style that fits you.
4)I would recommend Axe, sniper, drow ranger, tidehunter, sven, and juggernut for starting out.
5) The secret shop on the radient side is located near the top lane next to the first tower, the other one is upwards from roashans pit.
6)Yes there is wards
7) Some heroes can travel fast using skills other than that use town portal srollesor boots of travel, or some speed boost idem.

Did you try going to the secret shop? Some expensive items require you to go to the secret shop and buy the items needed to complete the recipe. You can go there by yourself or you can send the courier to fetch the items for you.

2. How do I change the controls of this game?
I want to be able to hotkey my items to the number buttons. I want to make the space button center the screen on my hero. I also want to be able to quick-cast items, instead of Q -> left click. I want to stuff to activate the instant i press the button.
Pretty sure you can't do that. Check the controls tab anyway.

3. Any tips on last hitting? Last hitting is very difficult in this game.
Wait for the creeps to lower the opposing teams creeps. Hit the creep when it's nearly dead. You can also turn off auto-attack in the settings to get better chances on last hits.

4. What heroes do you recommend for noobs?
You can start by playing Limited Heros game mode. It has all the heros that are used for beginners.

5. Where are these "secret shops" located?
In the jungles. In radient they are near your top tower (You can see a yellow dot on the map btw).

6. Are there wards in this game?
Yes. Observer wards (To locate non invisible enemies roaming around). Sentry Wards (Invisible heros are visible when in ward range).

7. Any tips on getting across the giant map faster so i lose less XP?
Use the teleport scrolls. If not then you can always farm at the jungles.

1. More advanced items require several pieces and its possible one of those pieces comes from the secret shop. If one of the pieces does then you won't be able to by the whole item at once unless you or a courier are in a secret shop with enough slots in your inventory. However you can buy the pieces individually then get the secret piece later once in range.

2. On the main menu click the little gear in the upper left corner which will bring you to all the options starting on the hotkey screen. Find the action you want to change (mouse over for additional information) and hit the button you'd like to change it to. In the upper part of the left section of the hotkey tab is your spells and just under those buttons you should see some labels, one of which should be quick cast. Click that then any buttons you assign to your spells while in quick cast will cast your spells wherever the mouse is at the time you press the button.

3. Some heroes have higher base damage than others and larger damage spread which can make last hitting difficut. The creeps have a rhythm as they attack the other creeps and its different depending on how many creeps are attacking and when they began attacking. You'll get better at finding this rhythm with time but it's best to attack slightly before you expect the creep to be within last hitting range. Attacks take time especially from ranged heroes who have projectiles so begin your attacks slightly earlier.

4. It all depends on who you prefer playing in these types of games ranging from spell casters to just right clickers, supports or carries and all that. But some of the easiest heroes are often the right clickers and carries although their are some easy casters (called nukers in dota) and supports like:
Lich:Nuker/support, very easy to understand and use spell
Wraith King:carry/attacker, arguably one of the easiest heroes in the game with only one active spell to use which is a stun and chase spell. His other spells include lifesteal, a critcal strike, and the ability to come back to life.
Bane:nuker/support A very strong disabler with good damage but does have the weakness of focusing multiple people ate on time.
Warlock:nuker/support A healer and an amazing teamfighter with his spells being so powerful however he is very ultimate based and requires some farm.
Vengeful Spirit:Versitile She has good spells for chasing and increasing her team's effectiveness but can also use this for herself and can deal a lot of attacking damage as well.
Sniper:attacker/carry Requires farm and has low health but a very long range and he scales well into the game.

5. If you look near the towers in the shortest lanes on the sides you should see pathways leading to the secret shops.

6. There are two kinds of wards: observer wards and sentry wards. Any other types of wards are spells from heroes that have different uses. These two wards can be bought from the consumable section o the main shop and the observer wards provide vision in a large aoe while sentry wards will reveal invisible units in a large aoe. Oberserve wards are yellow and cost 75 gold each, last 7 minutes, and come in limited numbers that resupply over time. Sentry wards are blue cost 200 for 2 wards, last 4 minutes, but are always available.

7. In the lower left corner of the screen just above the fortification glyph there should be a red "X". Just above that "X" is is an item called town portal scrolls that let you teleport to allied structures anyway on the map after a channeling time. They can be bought from the main shop or the side shop in the trees nearby to where the creeps first meet in the side lanes. They have a lengthy cooldown of 70 seconds, cost 75 mana, and have a channel time of 3 seconds if you are the first to teleport to the allied structure after a time or if you are teleporting to the fountain. If you are not the first to teleport to a structure after a time you will have a 5 second channel time. Carrying a TP scroll is very important for defending towers and escaping some surprises from enemies or setting up your own.
