One thing that is clearly better in Dota than in HoTS, is how diconnecting from a game is handled, bye bye to "server catching up", that really takes the cake as the single dumbest thing I have ever seen in any game, and if you do get dropped or the server craps out and you can no longer reconnect, YOU are the one punished in HoTS as the leaver, the whole team gets punished for that in HoTS.
@No more heroes
Yeah I looked at Riki's kit, full of stealth.
Yeah I like the system here compared to HotS reconnect which just practically leaves an ai in the game for the rest of the game. Thanks again for the info.
Few questions for everyone:
1. How do I send items to other people? We captured boss/Roshan and I was a support and grabbed the thingy by accident that revives you on death. It saved our main main carry and I ulted as Omniknight, turning the fight around instantly, but it still probably would've been more helpful on someone else.
2. How do I ping?
3. If people disconnect, wouldn't there be a bot that comes in to play for them? I noticed that one game was flat out 2v5 the entire game, but we almost won still (had more kills than them as myself Wraith King and a Bounty Hunter) but always outnumbered so couldn't push.
4. Besides the places with the eye on the ground, where else should I place observor wands?
Thanks for comments/answers everyone, the community is pretty helpful. :)
1. Only some items are shareable and the aegis that you picked up is not one. So be more careful when taking Roshan
2. Alt-clicking anywhere on your screen or the minimap. You can also alt-click practically anything to alert allies like enemy's faces at the top of the screen to call missing, your exp to call out your level, your items and spells to show if they are off cooldown or if you need mana.
3. Bots are only added in some modes like limited heroes and ability draft and it's probably better they aren't added in every mode because the AI will likely feed. However all the gold from them is split amongst remaining players and you can sell their items for yourself if you want but it will make them less effective if you want to control them yourself.
4. Wards are best placed on higher grounds which includes stairs however some other great places to put them include in the enemy base where there are no towers to reveal them, in the enemy jungle where there are large gaps between camps, and even in the secret shops to check for enemy couriers.
As for sharing items, you can only share a few. You can however use many consumables on your allies like Clarity Potions, Cheese, Healing Salve, Mango... From the top of my head, you can share Mangoes, Tangoes, Bottle (you can use the bottle charges on your allies if you want btw), TPs, Gem... hmm if there's more I can't remember.
The Aegis, the item that you took by accident, is better left for the main carry or someone that can't afford to stay dead in the next battle. When the carry is 6 slotted though, someone else might pick.
The wards locations usually comes with your map awereness. You might want to ward the enemy jungle if you want to kill someone farming there, maybe high ground between towers if you are pushing towers but don't want to get caught by surprise... sometimes you might want to block neutral camps...
this image here shows some good locations to put, but you need to use your good sense to know when to put them: http://i.imgur.com/cDzfo7f.jpg
Essentially, early on in the game, if you get trapped into cogs by a clockwerk, you're dead. Battery assault's damage is quite high.
Thanks for answers on the questions I asked though, now I can ping and obs wands come a little easier (the places with the eyes and around the beach area of the river.)
and also, why are you moving to dota ? if you tell us what are you looking for may we can tell you how to find it, it is just that i usually say people coming from lol, never saw someone coming from host, other than this, i think that arts/moba/dota-like/how-you-want-to-call-this-genere are becoming an old type of game, and it isn't worth to learn to play them, i dont even remember why and how i learned to play this game, i wouldn't do it again, but i'm happy i did so
Veteran may not be the best word but already have like 1.5k games and a week worth of time on that game, so been playing there a while.
Omniknight, Juggernaut, Sven, and Wraith King are also pretty fun.
Glad to see that you're enjoying the game^^
That said, if you plan on keeping on using these heroes, I can say that it'll do quite well as you've got heroes in quite a couple farm positions/roles. You might want to learn a ranged hero or two though.
Bots are generally a pretty good way to start, whether you're new, or just trying out something new.
