Spell boosting items?
Are there any items that boost the power of spells in this game like in Heroes of Newerth there are Spellshards and Grimoire of power which give more damage output to abilities and spells? Like if you pick a mage/caster/nuker are there any items that will make your nukes stronger magic damage wise? I looked at the item discriptions and didn't find anything yet, I might have overlooked something.

Thanks

The thing is in dota late game damage is typically auto attacks and spell damage usually falls becomes useless. I don't know why it was made that way but physical damage scales much better and thus most of the late game characters are often auto attackers however there are some cases where magic damage scales and remains very useful late game but it's rarely through items. There are items that increase magic damage by percentages which would be:
ethereal blade: 40% increase magic damage on a single target
Veil of discord: 25% increased magic damage in an area of effect
Orchid malevolence: Deals 30% of all damage dealt within 5 seconds at the end of the duration as magic damage. These arent super effective items as most power sources late game are physical not magical like I said

But if you're looking for characters that scale well with magic damage late game you could try:
Zeus: with a couple important items call "aghanim's scepter" and "refresher orb" he deals about 1280 damage just with his ultimate ability.
Tinker: He can refresh the cooldowns of his spells to 0 after channeling his ultimate for a time (which has no cooldown itself) which combined with an items called "Dagon" (provides instant magic damage to a single target and can be leveled up for more damage) and the previously mentioned etheral blade he can do thousands of damage per second given that he isn't interrupted.
Meepo: Can create clones of himself that can use his spells, more clones=more spell damage
Invoker: He can level all of his abilities up 7 times or so leading his abilities to do hundreds of damage each making combos very powerful.

Ironically these are some of the most difficult heroes to play although Zeus isn't quite as difficult.

Thank you for the detailed reply!

Both of those items are also active cast, so theres no items in dota that give you a passive dmg boost on spells. Also etheral is only really good on single target nukes, lina/nyx who have high burst, it greatly increases the dmg, but is only meant for pick off. Veil is a good item but can be hard to get off on many enemies. A few heroes have abilities where they can increase the magic dmg of the target, and overall dmg taken including magic. Other than that dota sadly comes down to physical dmg. Most of the time unless you are an intelligence carry, you wont be able to afford either of those items, or there are alot better items to get beforehand. But one hero called venomancer has an AOE very high magic damage ult and other spells, if he gets his ult off with the ags as previously mentioned, with the veil, you can take heroes from full hp to death. So not saying those items are useless, but id say they arent seen in game as much as other items.

First thing i thought of was Zeus. This guy cleared it up perfectly. What I usually do when i play nuker heros that have a big aoe magical ultimate is I pick up a Veil of Discord which he mentioned earlier. I like to use the Veil with Earth Shaker because all of his abilities are based off magic. Fissure, Enchant Totem, and Echo Slam. (Aftershock doesn't count to much) All three of these abilities are magical and I sometimes screw around with blink, veil, Echo, Fissure, Enchant combo. You might end up with a death but for the sacrifice of a team fight. A well placed Echo Slam can decimate teams and ultimatly win team fights. Same goes for Magnus besides the Veil, Enigma as well, and Omniknight. Now none of these 3 need a Veil as much but are still great nukers.

Well don't make it sound like it's a fault in the game now. Sure, heroes that depend on spells for dmg fall off late game but that doesn't mean they are useless.

Everything is balanced around Early, mid and late game heroes.
