The only people who like crownfall are broke people that don't want to spend ANY money so crownfall rerolls for an old arcana is enough for them to glorify the patch. I would rather a battlepass with 2 arcanas and the cavern crawl it always came with and even a aghanims-like event. They have clearly shown disinterest in pleasing us the players and are focusing on being a company earning profits. GL to valve on this path I love dota but holy moly are they failing at making the game great.
I do like voicelines etc.
It does feel like shards are super grindy to get, unless you win battlecups every week.
Just like TI, I feel like dota+ isnt getting enough love from the devs and valve. They need a spring cleaning.
As for battle passes I prefer the old ones more, the ones that could hype you for a major/supermajor and the TI. As for crownfall its like every other companies battle pass now. Get some free stuff, the most good looking stuff is behind a paywall, as it should be.
Someone might like the features of Dota+, so they pay for that, another might prefer to spend only seasonally (once a while), and if they love something in Crownfall such as an item set, or event related loot box, they'd buy that instead.
These are all god tier player friendly monetization ideas while keeping the game free, of course the core product itself have to be good enough that people want to play it. On the surface it might seem like people who pay keep the game free for everyone, but even people who never pay for anything are contributing to the game by playing, without this critical mass, everything is meaningless.
i do not pay for lagging piece of sh1t.
i prefer to mute people for free.
For once - its fairly cheap. Its only like... $5 a month, something like that?
The only thing i care about, really, is ability to level up my favorite heroes and unlock funny voicelines for them.
But all the other bonuses are nice to have too: you get extra shards to unlock DOTAPLUS exclusive sets and the proceduraly generated Assistant guides on how people play heroes these days help me with getting into a hero i never played before (the default guides almost always suck and horribly outdated).
These days i basically play DOTA in bursts: i don't touch it for months, then something reels me in (usually an event, like Crownfall) and i spend extra $ on the subscription just to get extra value out of my playtime.
