Philosophy behind losing your money caused by inactivity?.

- A match was found
- Accepted the match
- Chose a hero
- Something came up, had to leave my PC for ~1.5 mins max.
- Came back to the game when my team mates were level 2, no big deal.
- The big deal was I had 0 gold.

I know, don't go away when you are playing, I never do it, this time had to open the door and welcome someone, no biggie, but it took me that time, more or less.

The problem, or more likely, the doubt I have is, what's the point in punishing someone for being AFK like that?, in what scenario would that be abusable if such mechanism wasn't present?.

Just to clarify, this is not a rant thread, it's just I think it happened to me like twice in these past few years and I never could understand the logic behind it, you had to leave your PC momentarily and boom, not only you have an experience disadvantage but now you also have no gold.

What's the point?.

You should lose gold unless you get an abandon- but if you give us the match ID I'll take a look.

Iv been in a few games where players have gone afk and never came back to finish. It destroyes the match, you cant use there hero and you cant sell there items to give the rest of the team what they need. If you are afk recieving no exp and your charecter has not moved for over 5 minutes, you will recieve an abandon, your gold is then distributed to your teamates, so they could still posably play a fair game without you. There is in fact an option to allow other players within your team to control your hero and units while you are still in the game. If you have any more questions ill glady try my best to answer them.

It happened a few days ago, can't remember exactly the match, I was Alchemist. But I didn't receive an abandon, that I'm sure of. I only lost my gold. The timer was something like 1:45 when I came back.

I stayed afk today on a match for about 3 ~4 minutes at the start and didn't lose my gold. Wasn't on the foutain by the way, was getting some XP being hide on the trees close to the tower. But was afk.

That's because you had already entered the game. OP picked a hero, then left and went AFK without entering the game.

Probably its like no exp no gold gain for being afk but not abandon.....

Oh I see the problem now... Well, i think its fair for him not to gain the gold, you see, his team must to hanging without him and his skill for the time being, so the gold must be shared to give them a chance to buy item and defend themselves playing with one less player

What I think happened is, the timer starts running the moment you pick a hero. Not the moment the match really starts. So it adds up somehow.

Someone already responded that apparently if you don't actually enter the battlefield, you lose your gold. I've never seen that before, but I guess you could test it out.

It's was added to punish people who waited till after the start of the game to pick their hero. They get the benefit of being able to pick last but countered with the loss of gold.
