You quoted me and not the Boss. Anyway, I started playing/watching Dota after Ti 1. My first complete Ti was T2. By T3 I had a Na'Vi pendant. I was a big fan of Dendi. But suddenly there came a wall, and everything changed. From that point Dendis performance went LP and after more than 1 1/2 year of holding onto that Na'Vi badge I gave up and sold it/him. I do not hate Dendi, but his performance has (I have seen the interview and though...just an excuse for his performance) been sub zero for such a long time, that it hurts to watch him play.
When Alliance came back (now), I jumped high as one of the old teams had once again become relevant, and it is fun to watch the old veterans sticking it to the younger players. But Dendi and Na'Vis performance has constantly been so low that I just have lost all faith in him. I just do not think he is good enough. Sometimes I watch the old games Ti 2/ 3 and just feel that if he had ended his career then, then I would have been ok with that, as what he is doing today just puts thoset times to shame.
It seems as if somewhere along the way, he just lost his creativity and the fun went astray. I think that moment was during Ti 3. When they started doing the fountain hooks. The fun was gone and you could see the desperation in their eyes. The atmosphere in the team had changed, it was sullen. That was when Na'Vi started going downhill at an exponential rate. That was the last time I saw Dendi play at his peak. It is just so sad to see him perform today.
Edit: And went he put on that Pudge costume and played that game during Ti. I just though...this is what he has become, a clown.
royal to his teammates
loyal to his teammates
The difference is big lol
I too am happy for Aliance. My support goes on the team where s4 goes and I've never been as happy as I am now that he's back with his former team mates.
If you consider though. Alliance is now back together as a team who knows each other for a long time and plays well in synch, while Dendi's combo buddies are on other teams. I guess besides Dendi's failure to fully adapt into the new recent metas, he also struggles in finding a team like that which he used to have.
I didn't realize this, just now that you said it. It makes me feel sad.
Oh well, I still like him better than Sumail. Sumail is still young and he needs to mature. At least Dendi is entertaining.
Funny though, really funny. People coming here with stupid averages and ♥♥♥♥ about reaction time LOL funny when these people are like 1000 mmr for the past year. Mean they have slow reaction time? No, it just means they don't adapt and learn properly. Has nothing to do with age.
I can see where you're coming from with this, but it's a bit stiff. Dendi's always been a showman, it's not like this is something he would have not done 3 years ago. I'd also rather our pros break out something like this every now and then than be hyper-managed boring clones that can kick a ball good as in most sports. So I don't disagree, I just think he was always a clown and that's fine.
On his performance, personally I think this is what happens with almost all icons. They dominate, practically invent the game as they go, then when things change everyone wants to be the cool guy who always knew they weren't that good (not saying you specifically are doing this cat, just a general trend). I agree he probably should have left a while ago, but I (and most other Na'Vi fanshits) wanted him to stick around, and still enjoyed watching him play, so I can't blame him.
I think the meta has just moved too far from what he was good at. When he says the game requires less skill, this isn't just idle ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. What I think he's referring to is the fact mid isn't a 1v1 best man wins scenario anymore, and this was what he thrived on (and is still killer at as well, it just doesn't matter anymore). That and so many of his heroes either went totally off meta, or they became fringe meta especially when considering mid.
1) BAD strategy. Cannot win leads because did not adapt to game's changes. Their current team leader cannot plan or play.
2) BAD game sense. This was mostly a XBOCT problem (I'm guessing it was Kuroky/ArsArt and Puppey who helped XBOCT coordinate attacks in the old days?), but funn1k and current team leader is also feeder. Dendi is actually OK at this, but compared to Tier 1 teams, everyone except Sonneiko is substandard.
3) AGE. Honestly, XBOCT and funn1k aged worse than Dendi. I still see Dendi able to dominate, just not as often because game no longer allows that many free kills as TI1/2/3 era. Teams aren't as stupid and rules have changed to make it easier to react. However, AxMo and Ditya Ra are too young and need more experience.
Na'Vi may be ready by TI6, but they'll probably die in group stages again.
