Dota 2

Is it too late to learn to play Dota now?
I've played it before but didn't hit 100 hours playtime. Only used 4 heroes and they all carrys (juggernaut, chaos knight, ursa, and lycan).

Of course not.

Dota 2 is alive and well, we just got a massive update that added gameplay facets to heroes and innate abilities.

Just install the game and have fun. My advice would be for you to do the in-game tutorial, which has a lot of rewards and will give you some insight about the game; watch some youtube videos or some twitch streams and jump into New Player mode or Custom Games - those are stake-free games where abandoning isn't a punishment.

BSJ, Dota Game Leap, Dota Alchemy, Purge Dota are some great content creators you can check.

Good luck and have fun.

To be honest, it feels too late for me to learn any new game. I have so little time now that I find myself only buying games when they go on sale, trying some out for about 2 hours, and really struggling to get into them. Then I spend all my free time playing games like Dota 2, even though I know there are better single player games that are in my backlog.

It's never too late, but you need to commit to it. The amount of information you'll learn around here is crazy - to recognise every single hero, what he does and how he does it, and what to do to stop him from doing it...
You don't have to PLAY every single hero. Most people have like 10-15 favorites and then swap between them based on what's needed. But you still need to know what others do to play against (or with) them effectively.

This is something you can only truly learn through exposure and practice.

its never too late too learn anything, but the question signals weakness in execution so id say yes.
Do not learn if
You dislike toxicity
Do not have a group of friends to party with
Can't accept forced wins/losses from EOMM
You can't accept matchmaking that punishes skill
Aren't willing to lose 2/3 of your first 100 games and not be able to break even in win rate for 100's of hours

BUT

if you do play,
limit your games per day. Too many will permanently ruin your matchmaker
Learn a role instead of relying on exploits
Play around your team and let them iniate

If you want to play dota casually with friends and you are not into competitive, just learn how to play position 5: it's the role most people don't enjoy, and you will be "that guy who plays medic", so to speak.

You can manage to do it well with only 3~ heroes. Try spamming Jakiro, Ogre, CM and enjoy.

Other than the "rigged/fixed matchmaking" nonsense that flow is talking about i'd say he hits the nail on the head.
It is a toxic environment, however that can be negated if you play in a party etc.

i know its not the best idea in a team game but you can always mute people or grow thicker skin, if people rage at me i just laugh why would i care what some random on the internet thinks of me or says to me.

Don't do it! Either you won't like the game....
Or
You will love it.... then learn to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate it... but you can't stop playing... to a point you q for a match, when Q pops and you have to choose your hero... it's like ♥♥♥♥, why am i playing this again? Then you see that little ♥♥♥♥ wit on your team and the opposing team picks AA, so you pick Oracle and wait for AA to ult that ♥♥♥♥ stain... and murder him (deny)

IT too late for dota... not because you cant learn.. it because the game is not used to be...
the community is so toxic it make the game unplayable...

these toxic people will go on dota everyday and talk crap and troll entire game.. they don't even want to win.. they want to annoyed people and make you mad....

if you really need to play dota.. avoid European server....
also avoid sea server since lot of pale European is there..

When the game is updated, everyone becomes a new palyer
Rambit Jun 7, 2024 @ 11:10pm
i suggest not playing ranked. you will more quickly get caught up chasing imaginary numbers believing you will get a playerbase that is "good" once you reach that number. you will never be satisfied with the playerbase matchmaking gives you.
