Dota 2
State of Dota 2 in 2024?
So, in the Spring of 2023, I grew bored with Dota 2 and took a break from it; I later sold most of my Dota 2 inventory in order to fund other games. However, lately I've been playing a lot of Heroes of the Storm (abandoned by Blizzard, but certainly not dead; you can find matches in under a minute), and that's made me want to try Dota 2 again.

For the past year, my only experience with Dota has been selling my items with the Rebundle Set feature and watching Jenkins' channel. What's changed since Spring 2023? In particular, new heroes, items, and map mechanics; buffs and nerfs, and the state of the meta, I'll figure out on my own. Also, what happened with TI2024? I heard it was extremely poorly received and had a small prizepool, but have no idea why.

Bump. I'm curious if its worth getting back into the game (I mostly play Turbo), or sticking with HotS.

I think you should give it a try and see how it goes for you. For me, it is worse than ever. 9 out of 10 matches there is an abuser or griefer. People don't play according to their roles, don't communicate and don't play collaboratively neither in turbo nor in ranked.

Alright then, I'll stick with HotS. People in Quick Match have been surprisingly friendly for an MOBA. I guess since the game is "dead", the only people who stick around are those who genuinely like the game.

heroes of the storm is also a way more casual experience.. it was designed for casual players which have no clue about mobas and dont want to learn them
while dota is a game for sweatlords who wanna study a game for thousands of hours and still feel like trash

not really surprised that hots is less toxic, but it also is not really the same target audience

but to answer the topic:

Dota is in a good spot gameplay wise
i recently came back myself after 2 years of pause

people are still being toxic, but it is a little bit less i would say, since they introduced updates against it

Dota is still dota, it always was a love-hate relationship for me.
insane highs, insane lows

They ruined matchmaking, game is filled with smurfs, trainers, cheaters and griefers... They just released a patch and 1 week later people are still getting punished because they can't connect to games because they haven't patched the bug the new patch introduced.

Pre ♥♥♥♥ time to get in, at least until they fix matchmaking.
