He has a cleave, he is a tank, he does a lot of damage, he has a stun (group stun at that) and he has a gap closer.

Sounds a lot like Sven with Aghs right?
Deal with him in a similar manner.. like run when he has bkb. Kite him. Don't let him get to all of you in the same spot... Etc., I am pretty sure there are better players who could give you better advice than me... But these are my bits :)

I mean, this is pretty much it. Mid takes a lot of control of lane and awareness of power runes and side lane positions. Just cause Mag has some strengths to his kit doesn't change mid lane.

He is melee so there is trading. Ranged always has an advantage. If you deny your creeps you can keep him in the river. If he can see you deward. Have your position 4 come to gank. Buy the ob wards and plant them by the power runes on his side of the river. Any attribute item will help you trade. If Magnus pushes down your mid tower it means you have no team work. His skills are team fight not push.

Magnus is originally Midlane hero since Dota 1 like Centaur and Earth spirit, you don't play Dota 1? If you're facing a Magnus mid, you're basically dealing againts another Kunka-like mid hero.

in terms of early laning in mid yes, but what makes magnus so strong is when he has maxed cleave and easily clear camps, what im struggling isnt the laning phase, its how he easily farms from the jungle camps
