Dota 2
Why is this game so popular?
I can understand a more realistic game having a large fan base as it's grounded in reality, but why is a fantasy game so popular in the year 2023? I'm suspecting alt accounts and bots to boost the player base

Arguably it's not. It just has a dedicated playerbase thats been relatively stable for years

still a lot of people dont want to spend money on games.
so they pick free game.
its valve game F2P MOBA. its super close to LOL but its less popular overall.
mouslty people who play this game - china - russia
people still belive they can make money on Dota, but only people who make money on dota are boosters and smurf sellers.

this game will die slowly. i think only russian will be playing this game in europe.
hype is dying.

The game only addresses a limited peer group (fantasy based, violent, fast paced).

And yes, as for all long-term games with free-to-play permanent accounts there are a lot of idle accounts.
