Dota 2
After all these years of DotA vs LoL rivalry, victory at last
League just took itself out back to finish the job.
Enjoy the influx of League refugees that's about to hit in the coming weeks :isitcoffee:

For context, Vanguard, Riot's proprietary anti-cheat already in use for Valorant has been announced to be added to League of Legends.

Summary of what makes it problematic:
- Vanguard makes it impossible for a decent chunk of their users to play the game due to requiring TPM 2.0. Older PCs and Linux are out. (Part of League's selling point was that it can run on potatoes, it's on every device in every internet cafe alongside CS:S)

- It's a rootkit that runs on your PC 24/7 even if you don't have their client/games running. Routine system-wide scans connected directly to Tencent. (Security concerns aside it also reduces RAM/SSD lifespans)

- There's a plethora of reported cases where Vanguard (as part of Valorant) has completely bricked user systems, it's not a stable or well optimized program. There's also been documented proof of Vanguard sabotaging people's non-Riot games such as performance reductions in WoW (from 60FPS to 20FPS). Endless threads of people suddenly, magically having performance issues on their relatively new PCs and the solution was always to get rid of Vanguard, fixed all BSOD/FPS issues.

Sidenotes:
r/leagueoflegends is in full lockdown mode, 98% of posts and comments speaking about Vanguard are being deleted by moderation (basically 0 threads about it except for one from 3 days ago).
Subreddits outside of Riot's reach such as r/leagueofmemes has plenty of posts about Vanguard with hundreds of upvotes each.
IT people are raising concerns about Vanguard.

I'm a refugee from league. I posted my concerns about vangaurd on league of legends reddit. all I got was backlash and the mods actually removed my post and other posts about concerns with vanguard. Picked up dota 2 now. played my first pvp turbo matches today and didnt feed my ass off while having fun ^^

On the one hand, I'm never in favor of just sitting back and letting our corporate overlords have more power over people. On the OTHER hand, policing a game requires a certain amount of restriction- that's the basic social contract. Leaving things entirely to anarchy leads to situations like 4chan (biggest troll wins) or a strong-man-rules-the-weak situation.

So while I welcome and League players who want to join DotA because it's a better game, I can't guarantee that swapping to Valve means you'll have some kind of ultimate freedom to behave like an ***, anyhow.

These are great news. Threat the new guests well, they might finally accept Dota 2 as the original, well, Dota. We, the regulars, must be extra respectful and inspire that on others. We need players to improve matchmaking - more players means more choice. And specially, in the US, where LOL is strong and Dota is weakening, this is a great opportunity for Dota 2 to become the mainstream "Dota".

It is the superior game, afteral.
lol you still don't understand it right, like already happen long time ago when LOL banned an entire russian community becasue everyone was sick of them, them all come to dota starting to destroy dota 2, but since valve don't care and don't listen to community...they are safe to cheat, smurf, and what ever here, now if LOL decided fro a more affective anticheat is for give to player a better game, so all player that want to continue cheating will come to dota, since vac is really hold and ineffective on dota, in 14 years of dota never seen a singel player banned from vac system, not a single 1,and now more sh1t people will arrive again to finish the work, lol.
So it will be refuge for the cheat users? That's bad

It's fine. I've seen a lot of Vac bans, and I know Dota 2 dev team can handle more cheaters, and that they are working on a Behavior Score and we are testing that behavior score as we speak. More players means more diverse pool - it's not only cheaters that are coming here from LOL.

You have been using the forum recently, and read all the lump of coal threads? Those alt acconts were VAC banned. How can you say taht you never saw a single account being banned?

No, it's not. It will be a refuge for a lot of people that don't like intrusive Anti-Cheating systems that can lead to exploits and data leak.

It's not about cheats.
In fact the common consensus on the LoL subreddit is that most people have never even seen cheaters/hackers after 10k+ games.

Alright made the OP actually useful now :P
They will just return back to league as Dota 2 has too many cheaters and smurfs for new players to even enjoy playing this game

If you can conclude that much you should also realise that majority of the league user base pc hardware potato spec from third world countries internet cafes can't run Dota 2 64 bit application which nullifies your 1st point of TPM2 if Dota 2 allowed 32bit application it would be different story outcome

Even majority of Dota 2 players wouldn't be able to do TPM 2.0 standard

TPM is worst than a rootkit its an security chip that larps are security while giving away backdoor to anyone who knows the secrets thus its not fool proof or even secure to begin Tencent is the least of the worries for LoL TPM rootkit

TPM as security does filter out the half the cheating population easily that's the benefit of having TPM as security for anti cheat which is just lazy method for anti cheat essentially certainly will be better than Valve Anti Cheat

Hate to break it to you but, VAC is kernel level too. Has been since 2002.

You should just throw your computer in the trash.

Vanguard is just bloated piece of trash anti cheat that works better than other anti cheat systems like VAC god I hate the current software engineering meta bloat is better than optimisation

League players with bad hardware specs who were running 32 bit application wouldn't be able to run dota 2 in the first place that's why your entire point of league players returning to dota 2 wouldn't make any sense thus that leaves <10% of the league player population from first world countries which is not much but certainly bigger than current dota 2 population even these players will leave Dota 2 because these new league to dota 2 newcomer players will just have bad experience than league due to cheaters, griefers and how current matchmaking matches new players with smurfs still not fixed after a decade

PC MOBA is dead genre
Mobile MOBA is where its at

Riot is adding Valorant's intrusive and dangerous "anti-cheat" - Vanguard - to League now as well.
Kernel level access, always on, scanning PC 24/7 even when their launchers/games aren't on.
Safe to say people are not happy :dip:
And with the incoming update to Vanguard itself (requiring TPM 2.0), a very large portion of potato PC users will very soon be locked out of playing the game entirely - even if they allow the predatory spyware on their system.
People are too dumb to understand/care about that.
There is already mass surveillance.
If you use Windows or Mac you have no privacy anyway.
This changes nothing. Old news.
yeah but that doesnt bsod your pc randomly vanguard does

There was never a competition,Riot actualy care enough to promote their game and advertises. Meanwhile Dota matchmaking is rigged and Valve hands out bans to a major portion of gamers. LOL has faaaar more playerbase and is much more popular for a reason
yeah cause its brain dead to play
Oh great guess ill try Lol again.
