HELP! - Lost connection to Steam on MacBook Pro M3 Pro

Hey, I just got a new MacBook Pro M3 Pro and wanted to play DotA2 on it.
It came with Sonoma 14.2.1 installed.

When I start it I get a red bar at the top "LOST CONNECTION TO STEAM" and nothing loads.
I have tried reinstalling the game, I verifying integrity of game files - it finds nothing, I have tried adding the `-clientport 27015` launch option. Nothing seems to help, so I am at a loss.

Going to Settings > Account in game also crashes the game, but I suspect that is due to lack of connection to Steam.

I can see that it is connecting to one of the Steam game servers `162.254.197.39:27025`, but pinging the ip simply times out.

Game does work on an intel mac on the same network, so we can say it is on my M3.
