Dota 2 Crashing

Hello everyone

I am posting this to hopefully find a solution to my issue. I'm experiencing Dota 2 crashing. It started at the beginning of September, and it started off randomly, but maybe it has to do with the AMD GPU driver update that I did around that time.

What happens is that my screen freezes for a while but then goes back to my desktop, where I can see the sound of the game, and I am still connected to the client (this makes it even more frustrating because I can't control my hero nor my actions in-game even though I'm practically not in it).

I have contacted both ASUS and AMD to help me out, and I have tried everything software-wise, meaning I updated BIOS, updated all my drivers, fresh installed Windows 11 a few times, did Windows update, disabled MPO and many more.

What's interesting is that this is happening only in Dota, and what I noticed is that before the crash, my FPS goes down and then the crash happens.

Also, my FPS in the game is around 150-200, which is below other games that I'm playing.

Graphics card - AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT
Power supply - CoolerMaster MWE 850 GOLD V2
Motherboard - ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO (
BIOS Version 1602 x64
OS - Windows 11

Happening to me as well only in DOTA 2
Using 6750xt. Was about to upgrade now to 7800xt

My screen freeze and I can't do anything or alt-tab.
Can still hear music until it totally crash.

Had to do for power off every time this happens.
Been going on for a year with this. Got my low prio still and just doing arcade ffs.

This was fixed back then in April when I still using Windows 10.
But when I go to Windows 11, everything went down.

If it's of any help, it freezes on linux too after the compendium update of the game, and after a few seconds it crashes (during matches). The update also resulted in the loss of sound in game (which can be fixed via certain commands per launch, but it shouldn't be like that). No other game that I play crashes for me, so I am quite sure it's due to the update having some flaws. If you are not experiencing crashes in other games, it should be clear it's something related to the game itself, and not your PC.
I am also using AMD graphics card, and it shouldn't pose any issues, as it haven't so far.
I guess we will just have to wait for them to patch up the game for it to be stable again.
TLDR: The game is unstable after the last big update, and it might be the cause behind your issues, try out how your PC is doing in other games, and if you don't experience the same issues, it's probably not an issue on your end.

have you tried using vulkan instead direcx 3 and change the exclusive fullscreen to borderless windowed?

Happened to me yesterday and today, I was suspected it was the driver updated from amd so I reverted back to the previous driver, but still no luck. when ever I alt tab tab it freezes

i`m using nvidia gpu but my client in dota also crashes. I have noticed that crashes happens in matches with heroes which have barrier skills (for example: Sprout, Ice Wall, Cogs). Use of this skills may cause crash of server or game client

Same problem with crashes. And sometimes a lot of people in game have crash too, so I think the problem is on valve side

I play with a premade party and everytime they use voice chat its like a roulette of crashing their game

Sorry for the late reply.

At first, this was only happening in Dota2, but I noticed it happening in CS2, as well as Starcraft 2 (the games I play).

It started happening since AMD Driver 23.9.1 (early September), and it still persists.

I tried everything except for messing with hardware.

Really frustrating.
