I thought GG was supposed to mean "Good Game"
People just say GG nowadays with little regard to its meaning.

If it is a curbstomp, it's not a good game.

If someone disconnnects, it's not a good game.

If someone is feeding on purpose, don't say GG because you are stuck in a stupid match.

GG

They effectively mean the same thing, so yes, you could do that. Your argument revolves around people not observing the "technical" definition of GG, rather than the practical meaning of saying GG.

To which I respond: who cares? Besides you, obviously.

Who said anyone else should care?

No one is trying to start an activism here.

If you think I made this thread to start a political awareness, then go away. You've misunderstood everything.

"Then why did you make this thread in the first place" you protest in your deep nasally voice.

"Because I can, and I want to, and this thread is hurting no one so if you don't care then feel free to leave.

GG no Re

I'm done with you.

So basically, you're just shouting your opinion into the wind.

Cool. Glad you have a technical understanding of GG, and don't have a firm grasp of how language can be mutable and fluid. GG no Re, either.

Because seriously, if we smashed the enemy team, I'd rather hear someone compliment me in a natural way "Well played guys" instead of hearing the robotic "GG" response where I know they're only saying it without actually meaning.

Wow that's pretty bold. How on earth could you know some random person's intentions by them typing two letters instead of three words. Now we're playing with assumptions.

If the game is bad, (like abandoners in the first 3 minutes), and someone says GG, I dunno, it's pretty much obvious they don't really mean good game.

More like game over.

Which brings us back to my main post.

I presented 3 scenarios, and evenryone is ignoring the second and third ones. People saying GG on early disconnecters and intentional feeders.
True. Last match i had a magnus saying GG after we go their T1 at top.
Lategame came, and they STOMPED US HARD

Anymore, I'll only say it if it was actually a good game, or sarcastically after a victory, if a quitter teammate was constantly saying it after even little things went wrong.

I need to make a bind for "That phrase, I do not think it means what you think it does" and use it after my team gets stomped and my teammates say "gg" as though it meant something.

That's because, no one cares if the game was bad. No one cares if someone disconnected or fed. If that's the problem, take it up with the feeders and leavers. When the other team says gg they are not just being jerks. You just assume that. If you really think that these random people are out to piss you off by typing two words, then mute every person you meet. This is dota jargon and you are overthinking it.

For the last time-

Hearing someone say GG (even if the game is bad) does not offend me.

I just think it's weird so I talked about it.

Omg

It really made me laugh out loud. A few short "hahas" but it was loud.
Yes, but when ypu've been given an answer for why people say that (which is that the phrase itself is used to mean things outside of it's "technical" definition), it makes you look a bit obstinate if you keep harping on the matter.

It is what it is. I don't think anyone would disagree with you that people use it outside of the strict meaning of "good game," but I think most people are confused on why you think that is even slightly meaningful.

It's like asking asking why people use the word "gay" to mean "stupid." It's clearly because words and phrases have more than one meaning. Question answered, so let's all move on with our lives?

Just because bad things happen during the game doesn't mean it's a bad game.

My team has a feeder but we four still play well. GG
Enemy team can try to ignore feeder and play competitively vs us four remaining. Even better GG
Someone DC's, leaver gold OP and play to have fun and play well. GG
Curbstomp's are rarely fun but you can be stomped or stomping people who will make the best of it anyway. GG

All situations have been addressed and they can all have GG attached to them. WP sir

True, but I was addressing obvious bad games.

Like, a bitter losing team trashtalking everyone, and then at the end they still type GG.

It's just a general term to concede the game the polite and sportsmanlike way.

Then ignore them. They could either be saying you done good by kicking their ass or further trash talking. No matter what their meaning the games over and hope you don't play them again. If you do anything make a note of a decent player on the enemy team and say "gg" or "wp" or "sorry your team was a douche" or something.
