Better start from sup, it's more interesting anyways and teach basics of the game much better
Some basic ♥♥♥♥♥ hero like Crystal Maiden is a good start. She's literally a support with a passive that regenerates mana for everyone, can't get easier to play that this. The rest of her kit is very simple to use too, with probably the only exception being an ultimate, which gets countered very easily.
If carry - heroes like Sniper, Sven, Phantom Assassin. Skills are easy to understand, easier to execute, then you just right click and hope for the best. Knowing how to farm and lasthit is important, but gotta start somewhere, right?
Who else is there... Drow Ranger, i guess? Basically slightly more versatile sniper.
Chaos Knight is a simple bastard. Teleport, stun, watch crits flash before your eyes. Love that guy,
Juggernaut...
The general rule of thumb is that people put on the minimap where they want to go and then just point at the hero they intend to pick (unless someone ignores that and picks first).
In the pick select windows there should be small butons bottom right where you can pick the type of hero you wanna pick and the difficulty of execution (ranging from 1 to 3).
... Or was it ranged vs melee? I don't remember, dammit.
