Dota 2
THEY DON'T UNDERSTANDS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SMURF AND ALT ACCOUNT
my main acc with 4000hrs playtime got flagged, and my alt account with 2000 playtime are banned. Both accounts don't even play in rank games, in turbo games the players i meet always legends and ancient players. SO? both account play with same rank. And this consider SMURF ? They have to learn what is 'SUMRF' meaning .

"they" is the players reporting it as smurf account. Its playstyle, items builds and usually high solo kill counts. You outplay people and it feels unfair they will report you. try not winning so hard.

take for instance, blink wd. Don't see it on normal players. see it on sweaty tryhard player who OUTPLAY consistently during the game.

not players. Valve basically using steam multiple account features to detect and ban the players who have alt account. they don't even check the players rank.

so you think they make an arbitrary decision on what counts as a smurf and they are way off on it? I am still going to believe its mostly driven on reports.

Ask them to delete your extra account or just stop using the extra accs. You already said it, alternate = smurf. So stop using more than 1 account.

I also agree with their definition of alternate = smurf. There is no legit reason to have a smurf and/or alternate account.

And people pretending like current mmr on the accounts matter XD the very first game you loaded with your extra acc(s) was a smurf game. You just got punished later than the first game. Nothing special about it.

Quote from Valve/Dota News:

"Today, we permanently banned 90,000 smurf accounts that have been active over the last few months. Smurf accounts are alternate accounts used by players to avoid playing at the correct MMR, to abandon games, to cheat, to grief, or to otherwise be toxic without consequence.

Additionally, we have traced every single one of these smurf accounts back to its main account. Going forward, a main account found associated with a smurf account could result in a wide range of punishments, from temporary adjustments to behavior scores to permanent account bans."

Think the smartest thing you can do is just not use the alt for Dota anymore and hopefully that will be the end of it.
I have an alt account that I use to store my items in. Never going to open dota on that account again xD

1). Why do you need 2 accounts to play dota.......

2). Don't answer question #1 because I already know the answer.

3). That's generally along the lines of smurfing. Regardless if they are the same rank or not. In Valves eyes (and mine too) you only need one account for this game.

4). This isn't a MMO or grind game that would require more than 1 accounts to "farm" necessities.

5). They do know what smurfing is, that's why you're on here mad about a crappy alt that has no purpose other than to be picky with stats and get qued in with those relatively close to those stats on that account because your main has "bad numbers."

Homie I got 19k hours, you really think stats really make or break a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ match?

What's the difference between someone who plays Dota 2 on multiple accounts (AKA "smurfing") and you, a person who plays Dota 2 on multiple accounts but somehow isn't a smurf?
Rick Sep 4, 2023 @ 2:28pm
you not suppose to have an alt so good you banned hope you both accounts banned

Many pros have multiple accounts though.....regardless of OP not being in a professional team the point still stands. Now does this mean all pros are smurfing?
With the exception for BullDog ofc :D

Anyone who plays Dota 2 on multiple accounts is banned. Doing so is a violation of the Steam online conduct rules. If "pros" do it, they're banned too.

I was more aiming it to the newsletter where they said they will trace it to the main account.
Now I know for sure that there are numerous pro / ex pro players that have multiple accounts. Waga, RTZ, BullDog, Dendi. Miracle.... to name a few.
Now if they were to ban those accounts, how would they compete....obviously those who are still in the dpc. I mean if they were banned then they wouldn't be able to compete, unless Valve made dpc only accounts for them which would be pretty contradictory

Well, you certainly are living up to your display name.

Valve said that main accounts are being warned right now and in the future they may be given something as severe as a permanent ban. If the pro players create new accounts after this announcement and start smurfing on them, they will almost definitely get banned. But since they clearly won't do that, it's just a warning for now on their main accounts.

Living up to my display name?? Huh? :D

Well it would most certainly send a message if pros were caught up in it.
Will ruin a lot of cs:go pros too as they added smurfing to the ban list recently.

Moral of story, use one account. Save yourself the stress, gradually even with a smurf account you'll even out to your natural ability so not much point.
