It's Wednesday here in timezone.... Even in-game. forcing to disconnect players and update the game? lol
"Never play on patchday" a rule as old as online-gaming itself.
At some point they have to restart the thing to apply the update, that's the case for probably everything that can be updated.
Yes yes, as I said such wow UX design from a billion dollar company to force players abandon a match in-game just to update the game. Thanks for the clarification.
How else would you make a service use the updated content without restarting it to reload the content? You can't expect them to run two versions in parallel during the updateperiod just so you can complete your match during weekly maintenance.
From all the things Valve is currently messing up, this isn't one of them.
Yeah mate, how to update the game: force players to abandon a match while playing. Great idea, thanks. Are you a network engineer or game developer? You must be very knowledgeable to explain how things work in game development. Thank you
Actually i am a Mechatronics engineer, i program PLCs for multi-ton machines. And yes as a hobby i have a home server, automation, and do network crap.
You literally have to restart the module, service, or whatever the smallest part is that's been updated and can be restarted without disrupting other services that might rely on it. That inevitably will kill your match. Only thing you can do is to not play during maintenance, and now you know it's every week at about the timeframe you experienced issues today.
