did you even bother to check whether that Phone Number is 100000000% Guaranteed Safe To Use?????
for all I know, your Steam Account is Compromised because that Phone Number you are currently using is actually also being used by the "hijacker" too.
I see, thank you so much for the information!
I will have to check the integrity of my phone number too then. This phone (and number) is new and I barely use it for anything... supposedly it should be safe. I changed it because it was required to login on a page for DotA championships that seemed legit at first, there is actually my first suspicion... but considering the number of scams revolving credit card cloning and phone number cloning that exists in my country, I wouldn't doubt the high possibility to be related to my phone number as well
All I know is that it all started that day that I login on that championship website using steam - which was the same day I changed my number because I didn't have the older one anymore.
The second thing I know now is the extreme number of trades that happened from my account to many other accounts I never met on day 8th of this month, 1 days and a half ago... giving items for free apparently
to check whether the website is legit or not
1) log in to your Steam Account on Steam Website first
then
2) click the log in button on that website you going to visit
if that website asks your Steam log in information, then the website is not legit.
if you enter the website without needing to log in again, then the website is legit.
-----------------------------------------------
and make sure to do these steps i'm quoting below as well.
^_^
Not in the website directly? But I do remember having to login in order to join the "team"... I am checking all the logs I had on my browser from that day and that is the only one there, if it was not in the website directly, then it is their app, which can be downloaded from that website. And I was dumb enough to download it.
I am going to check that again, and update soon
Update - after downloading the app it is possible to connect account with steam - however, upon clicking the link to connect accounts I am taken back to steam website "https://steamcommunity.com". From there, as you mentioned earlier, apparently it is possible to connect accounts with steam without having to input my login information again apparently (this time I am logged in from steam first and it didn't ask for the login information, the time I did it first I wasn't and I had to login).
So the only option left is my cellphone number...!? Either this or I have no idea what happened, anyway, purging of all my systems is on the way.
Update: I found out a better clue to what happened - very close to what was said in the thread in the reddit you just sent. There is a scam site that looks just like the challenger mode website in my browser history, however the title is different. I tried clicking the link now and "the site can't be reached", unlike the original challengermode website.
Apparently it is a secondary scam website that looks a lot like the first one, to steal an account information, but then they get rid of this website after a while.
Piching site (now offline): "https://feederation.group/"
Their team on challengermode official website was "FEEDeration", and apparently the website they had to access this "team" of theirs was actually not related to the original challengermode.
Yes, it was not the challengermode, but rather a site for their team...
All the "members" of that "team" I joined on the official website also logged in 11 days ago and never appeared again, it could be a sign it was all fake accounts too, maybe even made by a single person only, but that doesn't matter anymore now...
Its like 99% you click on some links or youused your account to log in on 3rd party.
Move on and learn.
