No one is saying it's an I WIN subscription, but it makes playing easier. It gives you an ADVANTAGE FOR MONEY, which is the definition of pay to win.
If in a racing game you could pay for the game to automatically brake to the perfect speed if you paid, you wouldnt just say "oh but you can learn how to break perfectly, so you CAN still be as good".
It's pay to win, and it's unacceptable.
Yeah, but Dota Plus isn't that at all. It's the racing game equivalent of having a little HUD timer that says "turn ahead." Maybe even more benign than that... I mean, it's got the camp stack pull times. It takes a few days to learn those. And ability/item suggestions? There are already dozens of guides for every hero that'll suggest those for free. Hero suggestions, you get a feel for those after a couple hundred games played... Dota Plus is a crutch for beginners and lower-skill players, sure, but helping beginners learn the game keeps the game alive that much longer. High skill players subscribe for voice lines and kill counters, which is all just cosmetic.
Not only this none of this unacceptable, it's all fine. None of it in any way resembles 'automatically braking to perfect speed' or anything actually difficult. Hell, I've had people try to yell at me for using the suggestions Dota Plus gave, usually around rarer items or delaying BKB for other choices. (Edit: And I've missed camp stacks with the timer right there, too.) Does that sound P2W to you?
people who deny this are just noobs who cant do ♥♥♥♥ without dota plus timers and dont realize it
But if people who don't have it don't need it because they already know how to do everything it teaches, how are they at a disadvantage for not having it?
First of all, I already stated why it's pay to win. It's the literal definition. You get an ADVANTAGE to winning by PAYING. But let's dive deeper.
1. Dota Plus give you information on what kind of damage percentages you've received in the match. This is a big advantage. Sure, you can kind of get a "feel" for this without it, but you will never know it as precisely as with dota plus. Not to mention, being good at dota is basically being able to make many different calculations and decisions as to how to approach a match, so anything that makes this easier and helps with it is a HUGE advantage. Again, huge advantage for money paid = PAY TO WIN.
2. Dota plus item suggestions are insanely good. It will actually check which heroes you're playing against and which lanes you are playing on, to give you the statistically most likely item suggestions for winning the game. Again, this is a HUGE advantage. As a player, you are human, you make mistakes, wrong decisions, etc. Having a literally AI do that for you - you think that is not so much of an advantage? You can't be serious.
3. Hero pick suggestions. You could argue that "You can just learn this, so it's not so bad, just learn to play HURR DURR" - and I've already replied why this is irrelevant. If it makes it easier for money it's literally pay to win, but let's assume that's not the case for a moment.. Even then, people make mistakes. You will always forget a hero or two, not consider a counter here, another here. Not with Dota plus! It will INSTANTLY give you % chances of winning a game with specific hero pick.
Imagine you had an AI coach that would tell you "hey it's time to farm, you are stronger in late game so you are winning if you do it", or "Hey push towers, they are dead and their carries used buybacks 3 minutes ago so they dont have it yet so statistically the best chances for you to win right now are if you push". Compared to someone that's maybe still learning a game and doesn't have this option? This is so messed up really. The person with this AI (or with Dota Plus) has such a HUGE advantage over someone that doesnt. It's messed up..
I never actually knew how much of an advantage you have until valve gave us free dota plus. It's so much easier..
Not to mention another thing. If I'm a good player that knows which items to get because I've played the game for ages, and I know most heroes and their skills and what the counters are. And now someone that has no clue about any of this plays the game but has dota plus, the difference in our skill is suddenly 10x smaller than before. Why? Because he has an AI helping him make decisions on what to do and how to play and I don't have that advantage. Meaning that someone that doesn't pay for dota plus is sometimes at a disadvantage even against worse players - if they pay for dota plus.
I mean these things are so obvious if you just think about them for a couple of minutes.
I really cannot believe people think this is acceptable.
You can't know everything at every moment in every game, you're not a robot. People make mistakes and forget certain things. With dota plus this doesn't happen..
Why do you think pros pay for dota plus? You dont think it's only for the voice spam do you? Lmao
