Hi Guys,
I just "LANned" with my sister on 7.07c.
it seems that a lot of the core mechanics have changed, and one does not need the console anymore. You do, however, need to be online until the game starts.
so:
1) Make sure you have all the computers on the same network that has the internet connection (we used a 4g mobile modem - you can probably use a smartphone hotspot)
2) Have your friends join your party (your friends should be your steam friends to add them to a perty as per usual Dota mechanics)
3) Open Dota in online mode, create a lobby,
4) CHOOSE LOCAL HOST - this is very important... it hosts the server on your PC.
5) Under settings choose "fill empty slots with bots". These bots will be added to any empty slots remaining after you click on start game You can also choose the AI, difficulty, etc.
6) Choose your other settings
7) Start the game as you would a normal lobby game
8) If you don't want to use data, you may switch off the data connection (for 4 hours it used about 30MB):
a) for a mobile hotspot go to the phone settings and disable data while keeping the hotspot active - most phones can do this,
b) for a dongle like the one we used you can swith it off by minimising the game and opeining the UI for the modem in teh browser
c) pull the internet plug on a wired router
And VOILA! you are playing offline on your local lan network. Remember to reconnect the internet and players (in dota) to play the next game.
I found that using moderm router for Dota 2 LAN connection is no longer working. However, using mobile hotspot (turned off mobile data) works just fine.
Hmmm sorry no. why don't you have access?
