Mic muted only in DotA 2
For no real reason 1 day, when I tried to speak my mic icon appeared with a red line, meaning I am muted, obviously no one can hear me, so that's really frustrating.

I tried everything (Push to talk or not, setting my mic as default device in my Windows 7 setting, disable every other device, setting the mic configuration from steam...) and decided to give up.

1 year later I wanted to play again some DotA, and this bug is still here, so I really need help to fix that. Any idea?

My mic is fine, it work with everything else, other steam games like CS:GO, teamspeak, mumble, skype but not DotA 2. And I can chat in game, so I am not banned/muted by Valve...

I also tried to go on another account and play DotA 2, same thing, mic muted. So nothing to do with my account being banned to speak.

I have had this happen to me a few times recently , not really sure what causes it. To fix it just go into your voice options in STEAM and hit the hardware detect button; this always fixes it for me. Press the mic test button to check if it worked before you get into a game.

Check again if you disabled all other devices under Recording panel, leave only your mic, and set it both as default device and default communication device.
Under Steam Voice Settings, re-test your microphone. Set Recording and Receive volume to half. Set a push-to-talk key.
Under Dota 2 Audio settings, uncheck both Open Mic. Set different keys (and not the same as the Steam Voice one). Set Open Mic Threshold to higher than 8%.
Uncheck Autodetect Audio Latency and Streamlined Push To Talk.

Check if you have other communication software running that might fight Dota 2 for control (TeamSpeak, Discord etc). - make sure you set up different keys for those and no open mic.
On Windows 10 I had an unusual bug where a Sound Recorder app was running in the background, blocking the mic. You should disable background apps that use your camera and mic (Privacy - Background apps) or disable access under Privacy - Camera - Let apps use my camera=No / Microphone - Let apps use my microphone=No.
As a last resort, Sound - Recording devices - Your Mic - Properties - Advanced - Uncheck both settings under Exclusive Mode and reboot.

Hey mate, I don't know if you still need help with this one but I'll put what I did here for those who searched for the same problem. Apparently this is the top result on google lol.

So I did trial and error with the above mentioned steps. I noticed that the mute icon starts showing up when your open mic threshold inside dota 2 settings > audio reaches 7%. Try putting it 6% below. I actually noticed this last. What I did was:

>Hardware Detect on Steam Client
>Tapped on "Default Audio Settings" on Dota 2 Sound Settings
>And lastly adjusted the mic threshold

Hope this helps. Cheers.
