Besides my hotkeys being different (a heavily modified version of the MMO preset, so I have 1-6 reserved for hero abilities, spacebar selects my hero, etc.), my problem isn't really controling different groups of units, it just seems unnecessary in certain cases.
If I have an Alpha Wolf, or any other neutral with an aura, basically I want it to follow me, and not attack when I do, so it doesn't charge in and take damage while I'm safely using ranged attacks. Like I said, it's not really a test of skill to switch to a neutral and press the "stop" key, it just shouldn't be the only option. It's not really "control" so much as "lack of control".
In Warcraft 3, I'm pretty sure if you had unit A selected, and right clicked unit B, it'd follow unit B until told to do otherwise. And sometimes that's all I want a neutral to do.
I don't know why I didn't think of that. I guess I assumed right-clicking would be the same :V I'll give it a shot, thanks.
Yes, I have force right-click attack on. I guess that makes sense it'd override following, so your creep could potentially deny you if you were doomed or whatever.
