don't take these terms too much into consiretation when picking your hero, but just so you know:
-disabler means you have spells that... well... disables the enemy? stuns, slows, silences and other debuffs enters here. sven has a 2 second stun and it's an AOE. you don't really pick sven just because he can stun people, but well, he can do that.
-initiator is a hero that can start a fight. sven usually buys a blink dagger (go look what it does if you don't know yet), jumps at people, stuns them, and his allies follows up. or he can do that when someone else initiated as well.
-durable means... he's durable? i mean, really? why is sven durable you may ask? he's an STR carry. he gets a good ammount of strength when he levels up with increases his damage (because he's a stregth hero) and his heath. also, sven has a spell that increases his armor, making him very hard to kill with physical damage.
-as for nuker... sven's ultimate makes him hit very, very hard. he has a lot of burst damage if allowed to attack anyone.
to play sven, the way people play him these days is like this:
safelane carry. if you don't know what safelane means, go look, but in short, it's the lane where the hero has an advantage due the map layout. for radiant it's the lane in the bottom while for dire it's on the top.
get your stun first, then you warcry and then max your cleave so you can farm faster. something like 1-4-1-1 at level 7.
you will want blink dagger for sven, but consider getting Echo Sabre first. it will increase your farming potential while also help with your mana regen. sven's mana is awful. BKB is necessary if they have lots of disables like stuns and slows.
btw, one thing, it seems like the heroes you played first are all carries. you should play mid heroes and supports as well. at least to know how they work.
thank you for the help, in league i played just about only supports, i havent taken much of a look at supports here yet, but will do that soon.
1- spends more time farming. hard carry usually
2- most of the time the mid laner. early on, they require levels rather than just gold.
3- offlaner. goes to the hard lane.
4 and 5 are supports.
this might change when you play though. it's just so you can have an idea.
did you check purge's guide already? welcome to dota. you suck (dumb name, but it's the name of the guide). if you haven't yet, go check. it's a good read for a new player.
Let's start with this since it's the easiest.
Carry: Means the hero is usually weak early game, but gets very strong with plenty of gold and XP.
Disabler: Means the hero has reliable hard crowd-control effects (i.e.: a Stun).
Initiator: Means the hero is good at starting a fight with enemies with a reliable engage ability.
Durable: Means the hero is able to take more damage than non-Durable heroes before dying.
Nuker: Means the hero is good at dealing high amounts of damage in a short period of time.
You will almost always go to the Safelane as Sven. The Safelane is the longest lane for each team and connects to the opposing team's offlane. The Safelane for Radiant is bottom and Dire's is top.
Sven will struggle to get farm early if he doesn't have a support guarding him. While he does have a stun and high base armor and HP, Magic Damage and True Damage (AKA: Pure Damage) chews through his defenses extremely fast. He also struggles to engage early game without a second stun to help keep them pinned down. His mana cost on his Q is also very high, so use it sparingly.
Sven is a melee Strength carry with a stun, high armor and health, and high damage output. If you and your support are confident, you can try to be aggressive early game and look for early kills, just be sure to chain your stuns correctly.
Sure, I've dabbled in both.
Dragon Knight is an extremely durable semi-carry. His Q does a high amount of magic damage and reduces the damage enemies deal. His W is a melee-range stun that does almost no damage (25?), but has a high duration. His E gives him a high amount of Armor (reduces Physical Damage) and a large amount of HP Regen. His R gives him a ranged attack, increased range on his W, and extra effects on his autoattacks. (first rank gives damage over time, second also slows, third does area-of-effect)
Drow Ranger is an extremely fragile ranged carry. Her Q costs 10 mana and adds a 20%/30%/40%/50% slow onto her autoattacks (counts as a UaM). Her W pushes back enemies in a straight line and silences them for a long duration. Her E gives her and her ranged allies bonus damage equal to a percentage of her Agility stat, and can be activated to give the same bonus damage to ranged creeps for a duration. Her R gives her a massive amount of Agility, but is disabled if an enemy hero comes up close to her.
Woo, that's a lot of info, eh? Hope it was helpful. Anyway, welcome to Dota 2, hope you have fun. Feel free to add me if you want someone to play with sometimes.
One way to learn Sven is ironically is to not insta pick him, if others pick him, checkout how that person playes their Sven, how they get kills, what items they are using etc.
