rarely do i meet legends/ancients
even when i do meet them, it will not be a full team of legends/anc but a mixture of archons/guardians
no disrespect to them, some of the archons and guardians i played with definitely have better technical skills and reactions than me. It's just i feel most of them lack the understanding of the game eg. when to push, when to stick, when to rs. Some would own the game for 20mins solo killing everyone on the map but after which are too stubborn to stick with the team to get objectives.
I believe I got my rank cause i have a better understanding of the game than most and i play my role effectively. And i hope to play with players with similar level of understandings that's all, in normal/turbo games.
Turbo is an entirely different mode and game. Just because someone is divine+ doesnt mean they are good at turbo and also why an archon can be good at turbo but awful at real dota games.
That is why unranked and ranked use 2 different mmr systems so idk why you keep mentioning ranked medals in an unranked mode. You can mention their GPA and solitaire high score as well if you want to just list things that don't matter
IDK any official statement since Valve deletes a lot of their old news/posts, but it is also just obvious when you look at unranked game make ups. You would probably never see a divine and an archon in solo Q ranked games (unless the system detects boosting by the divine or smurfing by the archon) but I've seen it a lot in unranked games (diretide is another example where I've seen huge distributions in medals).
Also, again they are 2 different modes. Valve might completely ignore ranked mmr when pairing for unranked games, but I doubt it since I've never seen 4 high medal players against 4 heralds in an unranked game.
I havent played turbo in over a year and think the mode is too fast with a completely different meta and item builds. Why should they use my ranked matchmaking as an indicator of my turbo skill? Or my ability draft skill? I haven't played ability draft in over 2-3 years. Makes no sense
Finally, I play unranked to practice heroes. Putting me against some archons tryharding while I learn meepo or invoker (or some cavern crawl hero that I dont want to play but want to finish) could make it look like I'm boosted, but that is what unranked is for.....fun and practice. I'm not tryharding in unranked so my medal is pretty meaningless from a matchmaking perspective
Yall know how it works right? Aint about matching you in the same bracket, its about matching the "average" so you have a 50% chance of winning. Reason for this is people whinged many years ago about MMR as well as people whom were toxic so they introduced behaviour. Secondly they never put a reduced cap on MMR so people have such a massive range in MMR its hard to find games. So this inevitably caused people to just not find games, like 10 to 20 mins. Causing even more people to leave the game. For low behaviour like myself for 5 years, could take 20 to 40 minutes to find a match (in Aus). So what they did was, increased the "range" of players based in both low behaviour and also MMR. so that you can find a game more efficiently. The problem is after 2 minutes if you haven't found the same MMR in ranked, it will start "broadening" the range. In non ranked it will jsut do it from the get go, but in ranked the longer you wait for a game, the larger the range of MMR will be. As long as its 50% chance of winning, you get whom you get. But lets be honest here, Ancient 1 isn't much different to Crusader. Infact you need to be closer to Divine 4 and above in order to start playing real matches. Anything below is nearly the same level. Ive seen crusaders crush ancients mid lane. Ive seen Ancients 4's not able to last hit. So there is a massive issue with people not in their correct MMR because the game is way to "linear" up 30 mmr and down 30 mmr. And as a result of this, heaps of either account buyers or smurfs, or just people not correctly ranked. So yeah to sum up the game in one sentence.
The games a mess
as i say i am not belittling other ranks, i have lost lanes to lower ranked players though rarely. some do have better game mechanics than me eg, reactions and macroing skills. but i know these players do not have a good understanding of the game itself or they simply do not want to play as a team, thats why their ranks stay stagnant.
As far as I know, there is no official announcement about how it works, but also there is nothing official about other Dota 2 mechanics as well, we are just making speculations.
Noone knows for sure.
