How good is a Macbook pro for DOTA 2?
For work related reasons, I will be getting a top line macbook pro in the coming days. I just wanted to know if anyone has issues playing DOTA 2 in macbook pro. As I searched, all I could find was 'macbooks are not for gaming' chorus and bashing in most of the places. If anyone has first hand experience, please respond

I'm not getting it for gaming primarily, it's for other stuffs, what I need to know is, how bad it will be. Whether it will be unplayable or something. Or is it that I won't be able to max the graphics.

mac are pcs
if you want to know how well a game will run on a pc, you need to say it's spec
"top line macbook" mans nothing.
i have a top line 2007 mac book pro and it is absolute trash, youtube videos lags on it since when i updated it to maverivik, while i have a 700$ "mid-high line"laptop wich can run well almost everything
so, you should say stuffs like:
-resolution
-gpu
-cpu
-ram
-os version
-other things that might help

I have a macbook pro (the small one) and I struggle to play csgo on it, even my pc (also a laptop) can barely handle dota. The bigger macbook pro should be able to handle it, definitly when you get more ram. You might get FPS drops though

Hope that helped

should work just fine, ive got a pc and not a mac but my specs are less than half that and i play it without issues

yes, you should be able to play it welll ... i don't know what's retina resolution ( i tought it was a type of screen witout reflex/backlight), but it should be able to run even on full hd

one thing i have to tell you fro mmy experience: install something to check cpu themperature, mac have a HUGE heat problem, mine used to go at 105 °C as i opened a game, and then for a built-in program of intel program, it started slowing down to prevent overheating; so by placing some ice bags just bellow the point were the screen zip is located, it started going better

also when i opened it hoping to remove dust and to change the hdd to an ssd, i discovered that THE CASE was the heat sink, so basicaly the fans were just moving the air around the case, there wasn't one true heat sink to exchange the heat to the air, it was just cpu touching the aluminium case

I find this statement quite funny though.

Dota2 works perfectly fine with my macbook pro. It's a mid-2012 13 inch model, at OSX 10.10.5. The only part that I've got that isn't factory is the 8GB ram stick I swapped in the slot that originally had a 2GB one.

Well, I bought it a few days back, yet to download Dota in it, will tell my opinion after I install it.

Well, I tried my first game on it yesterday. With every quality settings set to maximum, I experienced no lag at all. It ran flawlessly :)

GJ bro! Hope you like the new MAC
Well, upgrading from an ASUS laptop (not ROG) , even though it was for work related use, I find it quite satisfying that the only game I play anymore runs effortlessly in it. Happy about it of course :)
