Weird support heroes that actually work?

Most of us will have been in the position that we had to support with a non-support hero, but what heroes have you found to actually work in this role? I'm not saying that they will be as effective as support heroes but it is effective.

I've played several matches as support Tusk so far (I seem to get him a lot in Single Draft when no-one else picks supports and I get no support option) and it worked every time. Ice shards to stop the enemy from escaping, snowball to get the carry close to the target and a stun, frozen sigil for easier chasing and walrus punch to hurt the enemy and slow them down. Snowball is also great to help a carry being chased (just roll on in).

Any others?

I actually played a pretty good support NS once. I handled pulls in the jungle and farmed up there. First night ganks on Radiant offlane were easy and I snowballed from there.

Wraith King, Earth Spirit and Tusk aren't uncommonly played as supports (its 50/50 like necro)
I'd say my best would be Slardar with his stun/slow and utility ulti
