You would think the moderators at valve/steam would see the trend and sticky a post to help more players with these issues. No?

Give this a try.

Search google or your favorite search engine using keywords similar to "windows 10 update freeze dota 2" or similar issue you are having. Also you may have luck with the following...

If you have Nvidia control panel installed with your nvidia driver software, I suggest you do this.
-- Open Nvidia Control Panel > "Configure Surround, PhysX" > PhysX Settings > Ensure the processor drop-down has your video card selected and not "Auto-select". Mine is GeForce GTX 970. This forces your video card to do the heavy lifting, so to speak.

Run Dota2. Open settings for dota2. The default video settings for dota2 are highest/max, so I suggest change to lowest/off. Also, try to set your dota2 resolution to what your resolution is in your video settings for windows, which can reduce the workload on your video resources.

A trick is to pre-load the map before you play against other players. You can do this by beginning a bot match, let it load the match, then quit the bot match. Then queue up for a match against other players.

Pre-loading the map only needs to be done the first time you run dota2 after restarting your computer.

Another trick that may work for some is completely shut down your computer versus just restarting. I heard once that after you shut down the computer, leave it off for about three minutes. The lack of electricity in the ram flushes everything resident in memory.

Turn off your windows firewall and virus protection while playing dota2.
@Nudge, you're a life saver :) Thanks a ton.
One question though. I always had it on "Auto-Select" and Dota was running perfectly fine. What suddenly went wrong ?

Not really sure. A buddy of mine told me the default setting is Auto-select, so changing it will improve performance on older computers like mine. Sounds like yours is newer, but if it helps change it.
